Open Your Eyes! Red-Dot Sights Are Superior

From a certain point of view...but not when the batteries die.
that's like saying "Iron sights are superior because they don't fail - until they do". I've had just as many iron sights fail on me as I have optical sights. The count currently is 3 in either camp.

Red dots generally give you enough runway with their failing battery heads up. If you're commited to going through the hassle of mounting a red dot on a gun - you can commit to the hassle of changing batteries on it annually.

I ignored the battery failing signs on a deltapoint pro once to see what happened. It got dimmer than I liked - but was still useable on the overcast day i was shooting it. The holosun design actually is a decent work around.

That said - using lower 1/3rd blacked out iron sights is literally the best of both worlds.

Yep, I have to change sights out for people all the time that had a sight drift or fall off. I guess the right answer is to make sure you are doing the maintenance required for your equipment. I change all my batteries out every year even if the do not need it.

I’m an advocate of them. Buy a quality red dot, one where you can change the battery on top. If it says it’s good for 5 years change it on the range at 3 years. Buy some quality back up suppressor sights whether it is fiber optic or tritium. Between the two you shouldn’t have any issues.

I recently had the Dawson FO front sight of my X5 Legion fall off in the middle of a defensive shooting class. I never saw it go. Luckily one eagle-eyed individual found it among all the casings on the ground. I wasn’t thinking I’m glad that didn’t happen in a real defensive situation, I was thinking that’s 90 bucks up in smoke!

And again, mine red dots are built in, just sayin......
