Opinion needed

Has anyone here shot or own a Beretta APX. What do you think of it. Is it a good range gun. Is trigger as bad as they say it is. I can get one real cheap but don't know anything about them. Thanks in advance.

I got the APX Tactical, accurate shooter, did have issue with the 21 round mags, spring was to tight, loaded them up and let them set, works flawlessly now, wife really likes it, trigger is nice, I paid $369.99 on sale, but I also had a $100.00 rebate, so I actually paid $269.99 when it was all said and done.

What’s real cheap?
a dollah tree fiddy...???

seriously, there are always sales at all the gun shops, the major one i go to, has "in store sales", so you never know unless you get there.

now is not the best time to sell any of what you own, prices are very low on what they will offer (since sales in general are low so far this year of new guns) ....however, prices are very good, to BUY a used gun.

Long post with a lot of information.....

I only have experience with the original APX. I own 3 of them and have thousands of rounds through one of them that I EDC'd for years.

My opinion is that the APX is the Ruger of the striker-fired semiauto world. They're built like tanks. They were engineered with hardcore military usage in mind more so than for civilian concealed carry. The components are more robust than most other striker-fired options on the market. They are a little heavier and thicker because of it. It's basically a duty go to war grade pistol packed with features that was built to withstand the harsh conditions that military personnel have to contend with. It should have won the Army contract over the P320 and even Glock, IMHO. It should have been between Beretta and Glock, and not Glock and SIG.

  • It's modular, so, unlike with Glocks and M&Ps, you can stipple, cerakote, etc., without affecting the resale value or voiding the warranty.
  • It has a robust stainless steel nitrided chassis.
  • Unlike with SIG and other modular handgun platforms, the APX grip frame also has grip panels in S, M, and L. No need to buy a whole entire S, M, or L grip module, like you have to do with most of the P320s.
  • There's no need to butcher the frame by undercutting it, as the trigger already has an undercut.
  • Their a beaver tail that allows for a high grip without the bite.
  • The guide rod and sights are steel.
  • It now ships standard with an optic cut, which is a feature that Glock & S&W charges a premium for. It's $100-$200+ less than Glocks, M&Ps, and other options that come optic ready.
  • The recoil spring assembly is rated to last 20,000 rounds before needing to be replaced but will probably last longer. I've seen "melt down" videos with Glocks where the polymer guide rod failed and had to be replaced with an aftermarket steel one in order to complete the test. I cannot see a Glock RSA outlasting the APX's RSA...
  • It ships with a 5-6 lb flat-faced trigger out of the box.
  • The APX has 10, 13, 15, 17, and 21 round factory mags available, and their magazines can be regularly found on sale for $20-$25 each, unlike many others that cost ~$40 each.
  • The magazines are flared out, which allows for easy stripping of a stuck mag.
  • Like the S&W M&P line, the APX can be field stripped the standard way, which is by pulling the trigger, and there's a method where you can field strip and release the striker without pulling the trigger.
  • The only internal polymer is their green competition striker spring assembly, which used to only come standard on their competition model, but now it comes standard on all APX.
  • Unlike most manufacturers, Beretta sells just about all of the internals except for the serialized chassis on their website. They typically ship the same or next day, and I've gotten parts to my door 2 days from the time I ordered. Most other manufacturers, including Springfield Arms, Taurus, Colt, S&W (with some parts), etc., either don't list or like to sell spare parts to their customers.
  • Beretta has available extended magazine releases and slide releases for sale on their website. They also sell chrome-lined threaded barrels, suppressor-height sights, magwells, extended magazine baseplates, grip modules in several sizes and colors, muzzle brakes, adjustable rear sights, and more.
  • Everything is ambidextrous.
  • Has a large trigger guard, which allows you to shoot with thick gloves on.

Beretta Pistol Parts..

FYI: BerettaUSA almost ALWAYS has a discount code for 10%-50% off. They sometimes have sales on their mags, AND will allow you to use the discount code. All you have to do is sign up for their newsletter, and pay attention to your email.

On this occasion, I purchased almost $700 in multiple spare APX springs, firing pins, extractors, levers, pins, factory +2 mag extensions, triggers bars, factory magwell, and a bunch of other APX components. Beretta had a 50% off discount code during that time, so I got everything half off. This left some mags that were already on sale without the coupon code costing $10-$15...

Because I was able to basically purchase enough spare parts at an affordable price to keep the gun running no matter what, it's my go to. It's what I'd grab in a hypothetical SHTF situation. It's what I'd compete with in shooting competitions. Because it's a chassis system, I can replace any worn or failed part on the fly within a few short minutes with only a punch.

This is the trigger that some swear is terrible. They say it's too long, heavy, and has a bad long reset. My opinion is that it's a duty and defensive gun and trigger. Most trigger snobs nowadays believe that they're carry guns should have a competition/target like trigger, else they can't hit the broad side of a barn. The trigger is fine, and any competent shooter should not have any issues with it.

You be the judge...

I have one and really like it, it fits my hand nicely, not heavy fully loaded, balanced, great sights, nice mag release for right handers, not too hard to rack! I like the trigger and I'm considering this threaded barrel; https://botach.com/beretta-barrels/

It's a good shooter, and more accurate than I am. Mine isn't optic ready which is why I think you'll find these at falling prices, $350-425ish. It also came with additional grips but I have mine stock, I like the feel of it.

The trigger is about a six pound pull, heavy and I like it as your shot must be intentional. Great for self defense, but not a competitive quick shooter, but then you can upgrade that if you like.

I'd say if it's under $350 steal it! If you want a good pistol paying $450 would be fine for a nice one, IMO!
