The U.S. Army licensed it. The HICAR program is circling it. Federal's Peak Alloy casing may be the most important ammunition development in years.

Not quite steel case, but steel-alloy. It’s a steel alloy that ditches the downsides of steel ammo. First, it’s reliable, up to three to five times.

Federal’s new Peak Alloy casing might be an absolute revolution for the small arms industry. In terms of firearms, it’s tough to get better than what we have right now. The key to advancing small arms will lie in the ammunition.

That’s really interesting. Are they using available powders and Primers? Like Texasforlife said with hotter small calibers barrels are going to see shorter life. Physic’s is give and take, it will give you faster velocities but it’s going to give you shorter barrel life. So not only is the cartridge makers involved but the barrel manufactures. Then you are going to beat the gun to pieces if you don’t tweak the gas system. You’re going to see faster erosion in the gas ports. Also the projectiles are going to have to be improved. There’s a lot more going on than getting more velocity wildcatters have been doing it for years. But they were limited to brass cartridges not being able to stand up to more than a certain pressure. I do agree that there is going to have to be improvements to advance us beyond the system we have been using for over a century. We have the technology to do that now but will there be enough profits for the manufactures to invest the money to get there. And will it catch on for the civilian market. Or will it see the same acceptance of the 327 Federal magnum and the 30 super carry? If the military accepts it then usually the civilian market is close behind.
