Protection Detail equipment

PieterCoetzee

Master Class
This is a Logistics What If for fun

Assume because of your past Military and PD experience (and Hollywood chiseled good looks) that youve been hired to run a 6-10 man detail to protect a business executive in someplace like Pakistan or the Middle East or maybe Afrika. Youll mostly be in an urban zone with some trips to rural area. Your threat will typically be small groups but in the rural areas could be 20+ They will typically be armed with handguns in the city and AKs/RPKs in the rural areas. Youll be travelling in an armored civilian looking vehicles that is rated for handguns maybe 762x39 but nothing heavier. Youll have at least two vehicles

Assume the threats in the city are at the MS13 gang level and further out better trained and experienced. You arent expected to fight a war but you may have to Break Contact and any local help may or may not be coming or reach you in time. Your base is a walled home with a gate (using a key card) but no gate house or visible guard allowed; but you will also have to travel to the Office building daily (although times can vary).

The actual expected threat of violence is Low to Medium (luke warm)

Your guys are all well trained and experienced

What equipment would you choose for the team? Would everyone have the same for mag swops if necessary? Can the rest of the team have a choice on handguns. Your weapon can be select fire but there are NO free fire zones. Civilian casualties will be an issue for the client AND you.

Rifles are permitted but can not be openly carried in the city.
Concealed Handguns are fine.
SMGs/PDWs must be concealed in the city but can be carried in a bag or briefcase.
Body armor must be concealed but may have plates
Radios?
What else?
Ammo?

We had a Suburban for the Protectee and all his strap hangers. Our chase car was a Land Rover but they werent armored. That was in Saudi where if Im being honest in retrospect the threat was low; but it sure didnt feel that way then

Vest, Plates etc are easy as we will be wearing Dishdasha / Thobe mixtures, the long pockets can be modified for easy pocket pool, I mean reaching into grab your pistol...

Interesting idea for blending but I dont think Id go that far and I doubt the client would unless we were in full run for your life mode. I expect normal attire would be Brooks Bros suits for the team during the day and a bit more casual after hours at "home"

Any "heavy" weapons for your team? Id be inclined to want a M249 or something like a M27 IAR in the chase car for suppression anytime we left the city. In the city Id probably want a short 870 for up close problems (maybe one I could wear in a shoulder holster) What else?

Around Iraq we mostly rolled with various AK variants and a shotgun or three. "Blending" at least for quick fast minutes was sometimes needed so the AKs, clothes etc could help in a pinch... for a minute, in a dark alley, if they had poor eyesight. Can't really hide being a large well fed Merican.

Well if Im running AKs Id want at least one Krink (maybe all Krinks) and a RPK. The krink can fill the role of SMGs and the RPK says "go away" Maybe a PKM but thats extreme

and since this is for fun....Id want at least one holster-able PDW (think Beretta 93R or maybe a G18) for Oh Sssssss at too close ranges. I wanna say a MP5K PDW but they are bulky under a suit (ask me how I know...) But since we're on that track then a MP5 Briefcase would get my giggles

If things continue to go south in this country you’ll soon find work closer to home! Sad to say.
EP work does exist in the US. Happily its rarely at the same level as the overseas hot spots. Back in the day as a young MP, I worked a few civilian part time protection assignments. On occasion I would escort someone from the telephone company into the worst parts of Baltimore City. If any of you ever watched The Wire, thats where wed go. It wasnt Fallujah; but..... The good news was that citizens and criminals wanted telephone service so we were reasonably safe until someone shouted "Five O"

I’ll bring your vehicles with crew for you 😉
