Well I decided to do my “get out of the house” range therapy. The therapist didn’t want me to mention that I saw her 2 times in a row but I’ll focus on today.

I brought with me the SA XDm-9 and the SA Echelon.

For the first target I was at 7 yards (which I eventually do for the rest too)

I noticed the XDm wasn’t shooting correctly but the echelon was doing good.

These 2 targets I ended up shooting while sitting down. These XDm was still acting up a little bit but after inspection I noticed that the XDm had copper shavings like crazy.

I’m not sure if it was the XDm or the federal ammunition I was using. The echelon wasn’t doing this problem at all.

The last part of the report is to always clean up your mess after shooting. Even if it looks like this.

Weird that the XDm was having the shaving issue and the Echelon didn’t…..🤔🤔

took me a minute after the shaving words to see it
that is strange
mine usually just gets that burnt powder residue and small brass shaving right inside the port on aft edge, it looks like i brass plated it after 100 rounds

Hi @Jsimon78,

Nice workout with two of my favorite pistols. Sometimes I will get a little of the plating mussing up my guns but I've never had it that bad. I'd that brass being scraped off the cartridge upon ejection? Or is it copper flaking off the bullet plating?

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

I always clean up after myself, even when the RO offers to do it. Shooting is very zen to me, a way to get my mind off everything else, and cleaning up my lane is like a long relaxing exhale.

I always clean up. The one thing that bothers me is when others don’t do it. There’s been several times where I spend 10 minutes cleaning up someone else’s mess. I’ll admit I can have a mess but I make sure that it’s cleaned up and ready for the next person.

This is their first time I noticed it. Honestly it makes me wonder if it’s the ammo or not. I might try some other ammo next range session.

we harvest our brass, so clean up and clean up between 20 or so rounds
our range has a severe problem with "free range" brass everywhere so we collect much more than we brought
we have a lot of folks that think their moms works there or something.

I m thinking it was the ammo. Normally I don’t do federal American Eagle like I used to
I have a PDP Pro PMM that got enough brass flakes in it to decorate with. I sent it back to the mothership and they returned it saying nothing wrong with it. It wouldn’t hurt to try different ammo. Run some 124gr NATO through it. I run a decent amount of American Eagle and haven’t noticed anything untoward.

I hate when people don’t clean up after themselves. I don’t mind if someone asks for my brass before I do my clean up. It used to be bad when I left the range I am at (few of them were bad) and always got me frustrated

Good to know.

What did the inside of the barrel look like? Extractor would not cause brass shavings to come out of the bore. Kinda like trying to trying to see how badly someone’s ingrown toenail is by looking in their ear.
