Range day 10/18. The bottom of the barrel.

Well today I brought my mom to Iowa to start up a membership (again). I swear it that was the best part of today.

I took the booth next to me. I paid for a rental for her and 2 boxes of ammo. Well I was next to her she got spooked by the guy (not me) that was been a total jerk. She ended up leaving with the rental (S&W EZ) saying it had to much muzzle flip for her. I thought she went to exchange it for something else. So been the retard I was - I started matching the guys attitude with my Shadow 2 and SP-01. That’s when I realized my mom was not coming back. As I put everything together I heard the guy complaining about the gun he was running (and racking the slide).

I got outside all upset because the guy gave my mom my DL (and had no clue that my mom left). Also I got the 2 magazines for the SP-01.

Long story short. My mom is learning what to expect at a range. I kinda wish we lived closer so she could do “a girl and a gun” group. Us guys can be a little to brutal at the range.

The only picture I took was at the end.

i'd stay closest to the exit going back into the shop area if possible to keep an eye out for her and incoming possible issues. i don't mind shooting along the wall just like bowlers don't like bowling against/along the wall. wish she had a better experience as i would've asked the person for a little more self control as she's new to the sport.

Hi,

Nice work for you. Sorry your Mom did not enjoy herself. It's a shame when a fellow can't be a gentleman and show some respect. That's no way to introduce women to the world of firearms.

Thank you for your indulgence,

She understands more now than she did before this experience. Yes me and her talked about it on the way home. Yes she wants to go back and rent out a revolver in 9MM. She also asked me how much kick there was in a .357.

Personally I think she is realizing what to expect and I also have to remember that she is there. Yes she was the type to flip out just walking into the gun shop or range with me. Yes I was snickered at a few times when I was cleaning after going to the range (she sat outside the last 3 years). I honestly never thought she would be doing this because I tried to the point I gave up. She knows I’m right there if she needs me.

With all that been said, she is looking forward to next weekend. Also next weekend shouldn’t cost me 90 bucks to rent out a revolver and some ammo.

what do you mean the guy gave her...DL....???

next, i told you...many guys have an "EGO issue", where gals simply do not.

next...she will (in time) learn to focus on her own port, and ignore the other noises...you, me, and the others here, know that, she will have to learn that.

next, yes a "girl and her gun night" is just right for her to ease into this much more better,,,,try to get her to one, and you just sit in the coffee room, or behind her and watch.

next...believe it or not, i alway choose the LAST port...but many times, some A-HOLE with a very loud gun, gets into the prt next to me, and shoots off his LOUD GUN...

yes, frankly many times, its VERY annoying..

even at times, when someone with a LOUD guns shoots for the far end of the range..the sudden BLASTS from THAT A-HOLE can spook me, as i was not prepared for that noise.

but that is an indoor range for you, echos of the guns.

then there just are those days, that the A-HOLES are there.....and the days when even with "normal gun noises"..??

you can still hear a pin drop.

does she have noise cancelling ear protection...????

RAMBO's are everywhere.....

this is why i LOVE my public range membership.....it does not allow me nights or weekends (limited times due to the cost i paid) .....so...NO RAMBO's for me.

my private club...???

ABSOLUTELY NO RAMBO's at all..........!!!!!!!

I hate to tell u I have been around jerks at the one I still have a membership with. Right now I’m trying to find her a gun she can get used too and mine doesn’t have staff to help or even rent anything. It’s your rant and go from there.

Yes she’s new and I told her she needs to get used to others shooting. Everything it minimum 45 minutes away (even the private ones). I’ll keep Iowa till my other membership expires and get somewhere else.

If I didn’t work 60 hours a week and lived near a range that was actually open when they should. I’d have it made but my reality right now isn’t there.

She isn’t used to the noise. There were a few times when I had a membership at another range without to much insulation. She had issues then.
Oh. Got it. I thought someone was intentionally harassing her.
Yeah, that’s one thing we all have to get used to. A couple times i brought people to shoot for the first time they were a bit jumpy. She’ll settle down. Did she double up with foam ear plugs and muffs?

I did tell her that she has to get used to the noise. Some guys know a female don’t like it when shooting. I am guilty at times of doing it with the ones that annoy me with their behavior.

Personally I kinda wish I lived in the middle of nowhere and set something up to show her but I don’t have that luxury.

Takes some time to get used to the report of guns in an indoor range, try to have her use ear plugs and muffs, may help, also there are idiots everywhere, just tell her to ignore them and enjoy the time there with you

I was just talking to her about it again. In time she will understand and get numb to it. I’m still surprised she’s doing it.
mothers and women in general can get "numb" listening to their kids, husbands, and others....

trust me, she'll get "numb" at the noises at an indoor range soon enough.

just tell her to think back when you were a kid, and how she turned YOU OFF when you started having toddler fits.......

I have found the best way to annoy the wannabe Rambos is to punch a big raggedy hole in the 10 ring (or anywhere on your target really). It’s been my experience that 99.99% of Rambos are lucky if they keep all their hits on their target…and when they do, it looks like a double barrelled blast!

i actually mean....RAMBO's.

i had been at the public range on 1 sunday, then about 2 weeks later, on a saturday....this was maybe when i first started and had an unlimited membership....never again for me.......

camo clothing, boots army style, do-rags, tank top shirts, like RAMBO wore..... like they were in boot camp, or RAMBO twins.....

several RSO's had told me they hate working the weekends due to those flucknuts.

No problem there.
