Finally made it back to the range today - haven’t been since December 17th of LAST YEAR! I brought the SFX9 in the title, as well as my Beretta PX4C (LTT), which will star in Range Day! 13 Jan 26 - Part 2.
The SFX9 has the 10 round grip and wears a Trijicon RMR Type 2, 6 MOA, Red Dot. Today my intent was to fine tune zero the optic using Federal American Eagle 124g FMJ (to complement my 124g HST carry ammo) - both 1150 FPS at the muzzle. 100 rounds for today’s experience.
First up was fine tune zeroing the red dot to a target at 7 yards. While my first 5 rounds into circle #3 were not helpful, I realized I wasn’t applying fundamentals as I should have been and straightened out while putting 5 rounds into circles #1, #2, #4, and #5. After those, I felt I really didn’t need to adjust anything (again, except my fundamentals).
Decided to shoot the next 25 rounds the same as the first (#3, #1, #2, #4 and #5). Definitely leaving everything as is!
That left me with 50 rounds. AND, my LGS has resupplied their targets…that means a visit from Mr. TACTICAL DUDE - in living color!
For those unfamiliar, goes like this:
5 rounds each shoulder, slow fire at 3 yards - total 10
10 rounds just above center mass at 5 yards, fast fire as soon as on target - total 10
10 rounds just above center mass at 7 yards, fast fire as soon as on target - total 10
5 rounds just above center mass, slow fire at 15 yards - total 5
Five strings of 2 rounds to just above center mass, 1 round to the head at 3 yards, fast fire as soon as on target - total 15
Makes for a nice 50 round drill.
After the first 3 stages and before the 15 yard rounds (because I usually suck at 15 yards).
A miracle, the 5 rounds at 15 yards were in the target! Apparently one or two right where I was aiming!!
And this was after I finished with the five strings of 2/1, just above center mass/head…mission complete and quite pleased with my baby Wilson Combat!
A great start for a range day!
See part 2 of Range Day! 13 Jan 26 - Beretta PX4 Compact (LTT) for my thoughts there.
