Dear friends,
I had a full day but managed to squeeze in a quick range trip. I went to the closer/older facility and, you guessed it, procured my favorite lane.
I brought just my VP9, a couple of targets with lots of patching material, and 150 rounds of 124g PMC.
I fired 10-shot strings for the whole session, although I did put 20 rounds on a couple of targets (center/head). We'll start at 15 yards with a reactive silhouette patched with an 8" reactive circle. I put a taco sticker on the bullseye for contrast.
Then I would go over to lane #1 just to make sure I was pretty close in the middle of the forty and fifty foot markers on the wall.
Then I started blastin'! The first target at 15 yards came back like this. I guess it's not too bad for the first one.
I actually hit the taco four times! Woot! I patched it up and plugged it again. Target #2 came back like this.
I did not hit the taco that time but there seems to be only seven holes. I must've put a couple of bullets through the same hole. Here's target #3.
I seem to be holding a little bit high for that one. I'll patch it up and make a slight adjustment for target #4.
Oops, I guess I over-corrected. Let's see if we can find the middle ground for target #5.
Yep, that looks good enough for a glam shot at 15 yards.
I'll patch it up again. Target #6 may have spread a little, but not too bad.
I wish I would've hit the red bullseye at least once. Drat. For target #7 I patched it up again and stuck on a couple of extra red stickers to make the bullseye a little bigger. It didn't help much.
Above you see 10 hits on center and 10 hits on the head, or at least in the vicinity. I'll do one more, target #8, at 15 yards with the same hits on center and head.
Well, a couple of flyers off the head, and the center is a little more spread. I think overall I'm making progress. That was 100 rounds at 15 yards. Now let's go back to 10 yards for the last 50 rounds so I can try to feel a little better about myself. Here's the first target from 10 yards, again with a taco sticker for contrast.
Hmm, three hits too far below the taco. Maybe the taco is not working for me. Let's start using the tried and true B-8 centers. Here's target #2 from 10 yards.
OK, with line breaks I can count seven in the 10-ring. Here's target #3.
OK, definitely eight in the 10-ring with three in the X-ring. I think I'm getting the hang of this. I'm down to my last 20 rounds and I'm going to switch it up a little. I'll shoot alternating center and head shots with a mag change for 20 total hits on the target. Target #4 came back like this.
Hey! I think that's pretty good. It's good exercise to change your aim point between every shot. This was un-timed, slow fire, but I didn't dally, putting about 2 seconds between shots. Does that deserve a glam shot? Sure, why not?
Then I packed up my gear and said my goodbyes. I left my tape squares on the wall for the next shooter to patch his target.
This was a good session, the most targets at 15 yards to date. I'll usually shoot only one or two from that distance, per session. Next time I'll try to remember to send a couple out to 25 yards. Plus I'll bring a couple longer barrels to see if that helps these old eyes.
Thanks for putting up with me. Blessings to all.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff
