Hey gang!

This will be a quick report. I didn't shoot as much as I usually do. I was hoping to really concentrate on slow fire accuracy. Well, I guess I got half of that right.

I went to the older facility today because I'm planning to meet a friend at the newer facility tomorrow. Yes, that's right. Mrs. BassCliff is out of town so I get to play a bit more. Shhhh!

AP1GczP2J8mw6T8Zc9ewLiuQb9UN9jYOchhxxmUzibar2soVNRpdz0qjIvJR7gdxoCvMjMV0V3E3oBG7KgBWSAva5VyYsn90iH47aOpCkcTqFz1XV03mMw_2JAuF1y0zo_WJ3Y9lyNIb15HwHbY6KZ_mpBBAdw=w1236-h927-s-no

The range was empty when I arrived and Matt offered me lane #9. I thought, why not? I usually like #1 or #10 but lane #9 is one of my favorites too.

AP1GczP9JGGEfJgbIdEsHKHmvO_w8wPKLopZovodFDDbshKGVoVsdC-zoy-HkURWsA_DIJLvUvwzCpUWYNKPbJTaMkH2cNkH_I4Py8V-3AJz3EQVHQ6qrGe-eLyUuMi17ttPPBemMgUJWGTfITWUBrcO7-IdjA=w1236-h927-s-no

I wondered why Matt offered me #9. He knows which lanes I like. Then I looked around and noticed a camera right behind the lane. I guess he wanted to see how well I was going to shoot today. Matt and I have taken classes together. Maybe he's sizing up his competition. :ROFLMAO:

I brought my two newer handguns and 50 rounds for each, 124 grain S&B for the VP9 and 230 grain LAX Ammo for the XD45 Mod.2 Tactical.

Yep, I brought my mag loader too. ;) I had swapped out one of the grip panels on the VP9. I now have the large panels on the backstrap and the right side with the medium panel on the left side of the grip. The pistol really feels good in my hand. Let's see if I can shoot it worth a snap. I started with the XD45 using the B-8 at 10 yards. This is what it looked like after 40 rounds.

I was hoping to at least keep them all in the black. I guess I rushed a few without noticing that I had upset my sight alignment. I'll do better next time, maybe. Even though I don't deserve it, I took a glam shot with the XD45 Mod.2 Tactical.

AP1GczPXH9RoDN9_TIhVH5mOQ-dYtxKXhwMisSfK1bXFE9hL_KwwRKX48_iO078xOiv3DpHaQbGt3Ebc2gX0hIhvd0vcIGyesacjPOPCSr_p2JOHwyACSjp7R6x5DtKuZnzIF2rqbGIzcNn8d0_k5QoPZkgKQA=w1236-h927-s-no

One of these days I'll find the proper allen wrench and adjust the laser so I can give it a try. When I turn it on it is high and right of the sight picture. I can't like that. I'm low/left enough as it is. I patched up the B-8 with a repair center and put my last 10-shot string through it. My mediocrity astounds me.

AP1GczPOMBCer1VgSn-P_6kBSssZOUzldf_psuyRGJjVDqXbJing-aCETbvCW3TssCOMgA8E9zBy83hKLTKCgYGfWIWjoSh2HAt9e8QkgqwAC0A5795FVeZapUas77Tzl6SsEch_QSq5st8hFmP4IG0XfU5FUg=w1236-h927-s-no

I don't deserve a glam shot so let's just call it a "participation trophy" shot.

AP1GczMLnIYRGFnNRSipr44UQBPMdJuXcI4Uz2z5E31rUYYfHXCIfHfRCi3rBbNUEQWIr6B0xpB0FWXQnHt0DJ3XczQuqD_T4776hgysIBXh3MxH17x2dPms8yDuJwG-TzsoMZySPM1wdqgpWsTLupd31zRb0g=w1236-h927-s-no

Then another B-8 repair and I moved on to my VP9. Here's the target after 40 rounds through it.

Again, one of these days I'll keep all of the hits in the black. In the meantime you'll just have to put up with me. I really like the front sight on this VP9, it glows brightly. I'm wondering if swapping out the rear sights would help me. Here's my "participation trophy" shot.

For my last 10 rounds I used a 12x18" silhouette at 10 yards. It seems I'm still upsetting the sight picture ever so slightly during my trigger press. Drat.

I really like these two pistols and I've shot them better in the past. I think today was a mental day. I need to think "Zen and the Art of Target Shooting". But then again, maybe I'm just getting used to the new grip configuration. We'll see how it goes tomorrow. I'm bringing the same two pistols to the newer facility. I'm meeting a friend, another NRA volunteer, so maybe the spirit of competition will help me shoot better. Yeah, that's it.

Saturday I'm planning to go back to the Bristol range with my buddy, shoot a bit with his cap-n-ball revolvers and my AK-47. That is, if the weather holds. With me luck. Later guys!

Those all look like good hits to me Cliff.

What sights are on your VP9 ?

Hi Bob,

Those all look like good hits to me Cliff.

What sights are on your VP9 ?

They are the factory sights. The front sight will glow, like it's phosphorescent. It's not a fiber optic/light pipe.

1716339492752.png

The rear sight is just a plain black notch with serrations so as not to catch any glare.

1716339555887.png

I think my XD9 is a little more accurate only because of the Speed Sights I had installed. I really like these sights: https://speedsights.com/

I have a green front sight with with tritium on my XD9. The rear sights are plain white. I'm kicking around the idea of putting these sights on a couple more of my pistols that I may want to carry. We'll see.

Yes, same ones that used to be on mine then. You gotta hold it under the light to make it glow.

I switched out to TruGlo TFX Pros ( installed by XDMan) and I liked them so much I had him put them on my P30L. Though lately I am getting to really like the blacked out rear sights. You should consider putting a tritium front sight on there brother.

I know we discussed the possibility of you trying a red dot. You do darn good with iron sights. Can't say for sure but I bet you would keep all your rounds in the 10 and X rings on the B-8 targets. Still very good shooting.

Good shooting Cliff, even for an off day, as you say. Everybody has those. Did you have to adjust the sights at all on the VP9 out of the box? You know, I can't tell with mine whether it's the gun or my not so awesome shooting with mine sometimes. I'm thinking of swapping sights and eventually trying a dot on mine. Either way, that looks pretty darn good to me. I agree with @rcurtner in that you would probably rock a red dot.

Start by shooting off a bench rest. Pay attention to your trigger press. I’m willing to bet it’s not the gun. All mine were dead on. I think they’re zero ‘ed at 25m.
Once you’ve confirmed the gun is on from a rest you will know when you miss it’s you and you can work on your fundamentals.

If you get a dot a would zero it at 15 yards.

Thanks Bob. I’m pretty certain it’s me and not the gun 🙂. I’ve never zeroed in sights on any of my guns before, and even though I’m no crack shot every one of them has seemed pretty accurate. I never thought about it until it was discussed on the forums.

I have a few unusual sights for learning (mostly installed on Glocks) curves. I'll show pics later. BTW, nutt'n wrong with your chuut'n.
Here's 3 I currently have with all being ameriglo. The pyramid shaped 1 can be changed to other colors to meet your needs. The crosshair rear site must not be in production anymore?

Not for me. No dots on my 1911's. All but one of my striker fired pistols have Holosun EPS dots. That pistol is my nightstand gun.

Good shooting Cliff, even for an off day, as you say. Everybody has those. Did you have to adjust the sights at all on the VP9 out of the box? I haven’t had an HK that has had dud sights. Keep practicing’

Wow, those are some different looking sights. I like'em.

I had a good day at the range today. I'll post up a report soon. ;)

Thank you for your indulgence,
