Hey gang!
This will be a quick report. I didn't shoot as much as I usually do. I was hoping to really concentrate on slow fire accuracy. Well, I guess I got half of that right.
I went to the older facility today because I'm planning to meet a friend at the newer facility tomorrow. Yes, that's right. Mrs. BassCliff is out of town so I get to play a bit more. Shhhh!
The range was empty when I arrived and Matt offered me lane #9. I thought, why not? I usually like #1 or #10 but lane #9 is one of my favorites too.
I wondered why Matt offered me #9. He knows which lanes I like. Then I looked around and noticed a camera right behind the lane. I guess he wanted to see how well I was going to shoot today. Matt and I have taken classes together. Maybe he's sizing up his competition.
I brought my two newer handguns and 50 rounds for each, 124 grain S&B for the VP9 and 230 grain LAX Ammo for the XD45 Mod.2 Tactical.
Yep, I brought my mag loader too.
I had swapped out one of the grip panels on the VP9. I now have the large panels on the backstrap and the right side with the medium panel on the left side of the grip. The pistol really feels good in my hand. Let's see if I can shoot it worth a snap. I started with the XD45 using the B-8 at 10 yards. This is what it looked like after 40 rounds.
I was hoping to at least keep them all in the black. I guess I rushed a few without noticing that I had upset my sight alignment. I'll do better next time, maybe. Even though I don't deserve it, I took a glam shot with the XD45 Mod.2 Tactical.
One of these days I'll find the proper allen wrench and adjust the laser so I can give it a try. When I turn it on it is high and right of the sight picture. I can't like that. I'm low/left enough as it is. I patched up the B-8 with a repair center and put my last 10-shot string through it. My mediocrity astounds me.
I don't deserve a glam shot so let's just call it a "participation trophy" shot.
Then another B-8 repair and I moved on to my VP9. Here's the target after 40 rounds through it.
Again, one of these days I'll keep all of the hits in the black. In the meantime you'll just have to put up with me. I really like the front sight on this VP9, it glows brightly. I'm wondering if swapping out the rear sights would help me. Here's my "participation trophy" shot.
For my last 10 rounds I used a 12x18" silhouette at 10 yards. It seems I'm still upsetting the sight picture ever so slightly during my trigger press. Drat.
OK, let's get it over with...
I really like these two pistols and I've shot them better in the past. I think today was a mental day. I need to think "Zen and the Art of Target Shooting". But then again, maybe I'm just getting used to the new grip configuration. We'll see how it goes tomorrow. I'm bringing the same two pistols to the newer facility. I'm meeting a friend, another NRA volunteer, so maybe the spirit of competition will help me shoot better. Yeah, that's it.
That was my quick visit to the range today. Now it's time for...
I'll try to do a little better tomorrow at the newer facility. Although I'll be using the same old eyes.
Saturday I'm planning to go back to the Bristol range with my buddy, shoot a bit with his cap-n-ball revolvers and my AK-47. That is, if the weather holds. With me luck. Later guys!
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff
