My friends,
Thanks for indulging this old noob. I even pestered the guys behind the counter when I was done today. I've taken classes with Matt and Ian is one of the instructors. I showed off my two best targets from my session. They were impressed. (Yeah, right!)
This was my third range day this week because Mrs. BassCliff has been off gallivanting around the Midwest visiting her Mom and having a "girls weekend". After church today I visited the closer/older of the two Fletcher Arms facilities. I wanted to be home in time to let the dog out. It was a little busy when I arrived but I managed to score lane #10, my favorite.
It's raining and the humidity is making my Splatterburst targets curl up. I kept running them along the corner of the bay to straighten them out. Since I did not have an excellent time shooting my RS22 Tactical yesterday, I thought I'd bring it here and make sure the sights are zeroed after installing the new stock. This is my "tacticool" Rossi RS22 with the Magpul folding stock and 25 round magazine.
I used my range backpack as a rest and sat on a chair to get the best outcome from my mediocre skills. Some people lean against trees but there were no trees close enough.
I shot five rounds at a time and adjusted between each string. The first string wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
As I shot and clicked the elevation seemed to be getting close but after using a magnifying glass to see the lettering on the rear sight I realized I had been turning the windage in the wrong direction. Oops!
After one final click I wanted to shoot something I could actually see. I had a yellow-ish sticker from our favorite breakfast place. Bingo.
I sent ten more shots downrange. But I didn't see any hits. Hmmm. Let's get that target back.
Well, look at that! All ten hits were on that sticker. Let's have a closer look.
I didn't actually hit the chicken (I couldn't even see it) but all ten hits are in about a 1 inch group. I'm going to call that good for now. Next time I get to an outdoor range I'll bring my binocs and try it at 50 yards. I'm sure I can get it dialed in pretty quickly now. I had no malfunctions with the .22 today, no problems with the 25 round magazine either. Nice!
Once I got the RS22 Tactical squared away I put 50 rounds through the VP9 and XD45 Mod.2 Tactical, fairly quickly because the range closes early on Sunday.
I patched up the previous reactive silhouette and started on it with the VP9. Here's target #1, ten hits at 10 yards. One of these days the first target is going to be as good as the last target.
I patched it up and sent it back out. It came back with a little tighter group. Here's target #2.
Oh, OK. The VP9 wants a glam shot. Why not?
Target #3 from the VP9 had, um, three small groups instead of one small group.
Oh! But they are all in the 9 ring on this target. That was one of my goals. I think I'm making progress. I'm hoping to make you proud of me. I wanted to switch targets so I want back to a traditional B-8. But, wow, I didn't have any fun with this one.
Let me tape on a new center and see if I can redeem myself with the last magazine of my ten-shot strings.
Now! There ya go! I think this one deserves a glam shot.
OK, I'm almost out of room for pictures in this post. I'll come back in the next post and show you my workout with the XD45. Thanks for being so nice to this old man.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff
