Range Report: 3-in-1, Fletcher Arms 6/20-22/22

BassCliff

Professional
Greetings!

Mrs. BassCliff has been out of town this week visiting her Mom. To combat my boredom I went to the range three days in a row. I actually got a little sloppy, had a little slump, but then started concentrating again on fundamentals and saw some improvement. After this "marathon" session (five range days out of the last seven) I'm going to wait at least a week before going again and do a little dry fire laser practice in my basement.

On Monday I went to Fletcher Arms Lake Country. I was assigned lane #11, my favorite lane!

It was a little busy today. I was not able to get good times on my 10-10-10 drills so I shot mostly for marksmanship practice.

I just sent all my targets out to ten yards and did my best.

I will continue this little thread with my other visits to the range this week. I've been alternating between the two Fletcher Arms ranges for variety. Thanks for looking.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

I started saving brass a couple years ago, thinking I might reload one day. It's starting to take up space, but I have extra space. Given what's occurring with the world economy and that little is being done anywhere to counter inflation, it seems logical.

I'm jealous Cliff....I'm in my industry's busiest time of year and I just can't seem to find the time to hit the range more than once a month these days...

BassCliff,
In your comment on the P22, you comment on “low left”. I’ll point out from my perspective that most of your shots on your strings on B8’s hit low left .
Maybe your grip and trigger pull across the platforms.
Just my .02 cents

Ask @SimonRL . I notoriously shoot low left with my cross eye dominance . Right handed left eye dominant shooter . If I am 2 o clock, I bullseye almost all the time. If I aim bullseye, I shoot 7 oclock low

Hi!

I'm back for range day #2 this week. This Fletcher Arms is a little closer and is an older facility but has all the essentials, lanes, targets, target rails, guns, ammo, accessories, and people who love it all.

I checked in at the, um, check-in desk. It was not too busy yet. It was really warm today and the range lanes themselves do not have air conditioning.

But it was not uncomfortable. I came from the Southwest where it gets over 110° quite often. Ninety degrees is nothin'. I was assigned lane # 10. It's my favorite lane!

This area is the "long range" where you must shoot at least 10 yards out to 25 yards. There is another section of the building where the max distance is 17 feet. I have not shot in that part of the range yet. Today I bought an actual B-8 target to start with. My big B-27 silhouettes are too curly. Last time I taped a couple of pennies to the bottom edge. These B-8 targets are already flat but cost 50¢ each. I just ordered one hundred for less than four cents each, including tax and shipping. These are great to tape on the B-8 centers that I print.

There are some numbers on the wall to gauge your distance. That's it. Sometimes I will go to a lane on the other side of the room to see if I'm close. You'll run your target all the way out to the end to get 75 feet.

OK, one more day at the range this week coming up in the next post of this thread. Thanks for putting up with me. I've been having a bit too much fun while Mrs. BassCliff is out of town.

Thank you for your indulgence,

Hi!

OK, one more range day this week. I told myself I was going to quit goofing off and get back to fundamentals today, grip, sight picture, straight trigger pull, etc, all the usual stuff. But it really didn't come together until the end of my session. The drive out to the Fletcher Arms Lake Country range is quite a bit different than my drive out to the Lytle Creek Firing Line. This one is a LOT greener.

Hi guys!

Save your reloadable brass. Even if you never get into it, it's worth something to those who do. You could even say it's once fired.

I keep telling myself, "One of these days..." I guess even if I never get into reloading I could sell it for, what? $5 a pound?

I started saving brass a couple years ago, thinking I might reload one day. It's starting to take up space, but I have extra space. Given what's occurring with the world economy and that little is being done anywhere to counter inflation, it seems logical.

I'm jealous Cliff....I'm in my industry's busiest time of year and I just can't seem to find the time to hit the range more than once a month these days...

With a decent reloader around $750 I'm not sure I could justify the expense. I'll have to crunch the numbers and present my case to the finance committee. ;)

I think I'll go back to my once a week schedule for several reasons; expense, quality practice time, don't enforce bad habits.

BassCliff,
In your comment on the P22, you comment on “low left”.

I had one good week so I thought, "I got this." But I don't got this. I've been having too much fun and forgetting fundamentals, not concentrating on sight picture and a "straight back" trigger pull. As I was going through my video (I didn't post all of it) one frame at a time, I could tell which were the wide shots. I could see the muzzle get pulled low, just a smidge, just before the shot launched. I'll get back to basics. I'm trying to get POA and POI to be exactly the same. ;) Thanks for the tips.

Come to Texas and join @SimonRL with me for range day. We’ll have you a B8 master in no time 🤪.
Kidding … but your welcome to Tx anytime.
Keep slugging away.

Maybe go back to slow , no time limit on your B8’s. Get accuracy down, THEN go back to speed.

Do you shoot with both eyes open ? I am cross eye dominant and I shoot with both eyes open and ( By now) habitually present the gun in front of my left ( dominant) eye. My handgun shooting dramatically improved when I made this adjustment ( which I came up with myself, since all the other prescribed methods of dealing with XED were and are inferior solutions.)

Yes
Both eyes open
I cannot wink or close one eye.

Do you scooch your gun over slightly to the left so it's lined up in front of your left eye?
No
Doesnt work for me.
I cant me head
Have for 30 yrs
Learned to adapt after everything 5 firearms instructors tried didn't work.
I developed muscle memory on everything I shoot with a pistol to go 2 o clock and I will bullseye any pistol.
Overcome and adapt

Greetings!

You may be right. You may be wrong.
Either way it will be a good day and there will be no winners or losers.

Hi,

You have one of the best ranges I have seen, wish the ones in my area were like that, jealous here….😬

I am fortunate. My membership allows me to use both of the Fletcher ranges in the area. One is close, the other is closer. The close one is more modern with the zoot touch screen target controls. The closer one is the older facility but it gets the job done.

I'm more used to outdoor ranges. I want to run-n-gun, scoot-n-shoot from behind cover at moving targets and multiple targets, and all that other tactical stuff I used to do at the Lytle Creek Firing Line in SoCal. They do a lot of that stuff indoors here. Weird. I have yet to visit an outdoor range here in the upper Midwest. The only one I know of that's somewhat close is still 45 minutes away but you have to stay in your lane, one shot per second, no private bays. At least at Fletcher's you can rapid fire.

But first I need to get back to basics. I'll put a pause on the 10-10-10 drill and work on fundamental grip, sight picture, and trigger pull. But that Hateful Eight drill is so fun! :ROFLMAO:

I had a few thoughts; maybe POI a bit low and sights could be shifted a bit right. Then I saw targets with higher hits that were more centered, so I retract those thoughts. Your indoor range is nice. I've never used one. Some of my pistols have sights that are hard to see with dark bullseyes.
I get that a reloading setup can be pricey. I got a Dillon Square Deal once that was put out prior to a cowboy match. Other folks have set out stuff for free or low cost, too. I bought a shotshell press cheap once and years later set it out with a free sign. Keep your eye out, it happens.

I forgot to say that Dillon was FREE. I gave it to Dillon who went through it for free as well. I had the cartridge conversion from the package deal I got from my doctor who decided not to reload anymore.

I appreciate you sharing your thoughts, thanks for your time. I don't think it's the pistol, the sights, or the ammo. The shooter needs to be updated. 😉 Next week I'll get back to some pure marksmanship fundamentals.

I'll also keep my eye out for used reloading gear. That's a great idea. You can't hardly beat free. 😃😃
