Hi,
I'm not sure if I really like shooting these, or if I'm just too lazy to shoot any other guns before cleaning these. I took all my .45s to the newer range. Well, all except the Derringer, and put 50 more rounds through each before cleaning them. I really cleaned them this time after I got home. I shot my normal 10-shot strings at 10 yards, with one target at 15 yards just for fun. I'd say today was a little above mediocre. You be the judge. Just like last week we have the Sig 1911-X Freedom, Garrison 1911, and XD45 Mod.2 Tactical. My practice ammo is Freedom/LAX Ammo 230 grain.
I just got email notification that Sig has shipped four free magazines and they will be here Friday. I'm still going to pick up a few more 10-round magazines from CMC or MecGar, whoever has them on sale soon. You know I don't like all black targets, I can't see my sight picture very well against the black background. So I stuck on a 4" reactive bullseye and sent the first target out to 10 yards. I guess it was a little better. I used the XD45 as my first hole punch.
I forgot to take a picture before I patched up this mess, but you can tell the hits are running a little high. I'm getting to old to remember the sight picture for all of my pistols. At least I make sure my EDCs are consistent.
Target #2 got 10 hits and, while the group was more centered, it was a little more spread out.
OK, now before that starts getting too ugly, let's start using some fresh printed targets. Target #3 was a 1/3 size silhouette. I like to keep the hits in the A box. Some efforts are better than others.
Yeah, too many outside the A box. The red dot on the A didn't even help.
You've seen me do better. Let's try that one again. Here's target #4.
Only two hits outside the A box. That's pretty good for this old man. No, that hit on the head's A box was a flyer. I can't claim that's where I was aiming.
Next, for the last 10 hits using the XD45, I sent the B-8 center out to 15 yrds. It came back like this.
If you are generous with the line breaks, and you always are, it seems there are six hits in the 10-ring. That's dangerously close to qualifying for a glam shot. Aw, what the heck?
I definitely want to replace the trigger on this gun. It's mush. It's smooth, but reeeealy mushy, like running your finger through a bowl of oatmeal. I know PRP makes replacement triggers. Perhaps something like this? "Drop In" or "Extreme"? I don't think I need a 2.5 lb trigger, but 3-4 lb trigger with no mush would be a great improvement.

Anyway, let's move on to the Garrison 1911 in .45ACP. The more I shoot this one, the more I like it. Here's the first target.
OK, not a bad group but running a little low of the 10-ring. Let me adjust my sight picture a bit to try to get a few more in the 10. Target #3.
Well I would call that a valiant effort, only one, maybe two, out of the 10-ring. I can't really tell. I seem to be pressing the trigger more straight back today, and not pulling it down and left. Since I probably won't have a better target, let's go ahead and grab a glam shot.
Target #3 is interesting. There's a nice little group of 5 hits inside the 10 ring. Then there's another little group of 5 hits on the lower side of the 9 ring. It would be cool if I could get those two to meet in the middle.
I don't know if it made a difference today, I should've taken notes, but sometimes I would shoot a 10 round magazine and other times I shoot two magazines with 5 rounds loaded. I didn't take notes today. Oh, who am I kidding, I never take notes. Moving on, target #4 will be a 1/3 size silhouette.
Whatta ya know? That's above average for me with eight hits inside the A box. For the last Garrison target I'm going to send it out to 15 yards again and used an 8" reactive circle.
Target #5 was not horrible. They're all inside 8" and a lot of them are somewhere near the middle.
It's not really deserving of a glam shot but electrons are cheap, right?
One day soon I will dedicate a whole practice session to the 15 yard distance. Oh boy, that could get ugly. But I think the repetition would help me. Even so, the RSO today told me I was shooting pretty good. I think he was just being nice.
I will be back in the next post to finish up the session with the Sig 1911-X Freedom. I know I was just going to shoot one box through each pistol, but I also had a partial box in my case so the Sig got a little extra love. It's a nice shooter. I'll be right back.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff
