Range Report: A Few Mag Dumps, 4/23/26

BassCliff

Ronin
Friends,

Yesterday, after lunch with the guys, I had a chance to stop by the range for a few minutes. Since I didn't have a lot of time I wanted to work on my "balance of speed and accuracy" and shoot the magazine in my EDC just to make sure everything is working as it should. This first picture is from the third floor of my doctor's office. We've had a couple of really nice days since it stopped raining. My favorite fast food place, Culver's, is under the blue roof.

AP1GczOsXmwxc2bdy-AA164-BaiJL121WVHX0F4bmIllysCTWCsVswmb5ZhJEimNMVPW4II1xElGPmr5LeurpJVo6Ty4funTH5coxDGvRo4vV2owchlX55v8luarI-DHwIOIUhzsjDAxglO0ZGL9PvEX94y23g=w1651-h929-s-no

Of course I procured my favorite lane at the older facility. It was on the way home from lunch that day.

AP1GczP46JLRYJsvjzRDUQNwlIuoxHewUIRAY57MSfzttKWCUndnF0aB9ZGX7weN6-qMCZfIOPa8g2VSzA3qmBVk9xqepeiyY3aQXk2XRJxsfBooUtl4QjSh0v99LR3Mucj0E4k9tYa3C9FUINuslM4jv2f-Sg=w1651-h929-s-no

I decided to bring my two optic pistols (Mod.3, Echelon 4.5F Comp), current EDC (VP9), and my fun unit, the 686 Plus. Who am I kidding? They were all loaded up in the case and I didn't feel like swapping out anything.

AP1GczNnghxlVZFpgaS4hrucftkDe5xdrAvXoVAYaOS-8xE6QybTRVSCi0xLVt3v_nV4i-InyXy8enH51ITKh6gjdzBloWRIxFwKvY1O_Poomh8BYGWMk3ZMzJrOuF25faYi5uC81III6qUAEhoeL2DnCFj4PQ=w1651-h929-s-no

For the first target, the center got the mag dump of my defensive ammo from the VP9. I was shooting pretty fast today, one second or less between shot for the whole session. I took a little more time once I got to the 686.

AP1GczPr76WV_accB4jnHJaG9PGpMKW8Io51xZBgiBRGr-NXMfXfMtfOxOCGYzeaCZCf58p19mEd-dETtlm6VNVZsYhi_oLpZp8XD5OPP0uK7E4KOQGviN9279EO8SkNlbc6BV9G_jEb6KPUNpDiIUr5_kRGvg=w1651-h929-s-no

The top two circles got 10 rounds and the bottom two got 15 rounds. With less than a second between rounds, I guess my spread wasn't too terrible. I just need more practice! :)

The next target enjoyed the Mod.3 with the Holosun. I did not slow down much for this target. The center got 40 rounds and the head got 10 rounds with lots of mag reloads in between 10-shot strings.

AP1GczNVDjuufkdSUnb_d950mmtZC7VYEkK2LtcUhMliVcagRCobmu5WUptkvfbIKfuu83t_P2hlJ4N1XFGNXv-M_OBl7uWDfQLCRp4UwRrGMJHDW8L-J5NF6JGtr8eqbxPByoFBbZT7ZrOBvhTH65WSrjGJGw=w1651-h929-s-no

I patched up this target, sent it back out to 10 yards, and got the Echelon ready for more of the same.

AP1GczNrwWWnnoc5WA1B4FDnu8Tdx3dcCUXpSDizRsbDlVDk2gwB3--l4bJ2yUMqoPLqM_tyZUO-5RU3PKSMwkSM1j1ts3cxiaSqSqvpPo50cxAbl_2kJKZ5RkddQFPxyPOBcH2VW_oo9is1dvpkquZx3ASbkw=w1651-h929-s-no

I was beginning to think that I needed to adjust the dot up a click or so. When I slowed down a little for the head shots I realized that it was probably just me. I let a few go wide but, when I pay attention, the projectiles will punch holes where I want them to. :)

Then I sent my favorite target out to 10 yards and shot two cylinders (14 rounds) at it in single action. Cocking the hammer on this beauty just feels so good.

I patched up the target and tried a couple more cylinders with double action. The trigger is not that bad. I just need to get used to it, and keep the sight picture lined up.

There was a little more spread but I got half the hits in the bullseye. I'll take it. I patched up this target again, put seven hits double action in the center then seven hits single action on the head. Hmmm, they're starting to look about the same, except for that one that really got away. :p

Good shooting! At first I thought that you were going to shoot out of your doctors window! Glad you went to range.

Hey guys!

Thanks for stopping by.

As usual, good job agent, you ole killin machine you.

I guess it's a good thing there's no law against killin' paper. We'd all be in trouble.

Good shooting Cliff.

Thanks! I think I did a little better last week but I won't complain. ;)

Good shooting! At first I thought that you were going to shoot out of your doctors window! Glad you went to range.

That would be a hoot. I've been to a couple of ranges where you could shoot from an elevated position out to 500 or 1000 yards. I don't really have a rifle for that but it would be a blast to try it. Now that the weather has warmed up I'll try 100-300 yards at my local outdoor range.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Hi,

Good shooting sir! The 686 is a great looking and great shooting revolver.

We recently got a Culvers in my town. Great fish and burgers and shakes!

I'm really glad I picked up that big revolver. I don't know if I'd ever use it in a self defense situation but it sure is fun at the range. I'm thinking about putting a square butt conversion grip on it, maybe a leather holster/belt just for fun.

I'd never heard of Culver's until we moved to the Midwest. Now it's definitely my favorite fast food and certainly in my top 5 places to eat. I'm there probably once a week, love their fish fry and cheese curds. ;)

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Hi guys,

Nice there Cliff, I hardly ever shoot my revolver double action, I always shoot single action

Thanks Anni! Even though it's DA, there's just something very satisfying about cocking the hammer. Though I do have to pay attention to that very light trigger. It has surprised me a couple of times. I always keep my muzzle pointed down range. ;)

I always shoot DA , hardly ever shoot SA . ( Well , unless it's a Single Action gun .)

My other revolvers are both SA. I've started practicing DA more with this one. It's just a little harder keeping the sights aligned during that long (12 pound?) pull. But that's OK. I love to practice. :)

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff
