Hi,

Monday I went to the range with 10 of my closest friends for a little scootin' and shootin'. It was a good night to be indoors.

AP1GczO57AjZCKVYj9LbPki6FqCLRmwNSvMo8vB9xR_mcEC-eY7T6SD6XKWlptoqiTCE-BrlyR46wdIn02hDR8MhSF9A1YyVWK26kKkTWAF9n8_Vcoco_rLsszayRgVxw_Cjr3JJR4muf099CP6a_mNvxQJzqA=w1651-h929-s-no

The range had closed early so we'uns could take our class. It didn't stay empty for long.

We started with these "Immobilize Zone" targets.

For our "warm up" exercise we were shooting at 5, 10, and 15 yards, pivoting 90° left and right or 180° to face the target before drawing and shooting 3 to 5 at the high center chest. At the end of this exercise my target looked like this.

This is just a view looking back toward the bays. I was using lane #12, my favorite, the one farthest to the left.

Our next drill was the Mozambique. This is a fun run. 2-2-2, mag reload, 2-2-2.

We all used the same targets so I can't tell you how excellently I performed. ;) The next exercise used fresh targets and involved taking two steps in the direction commanded, forward, backward, left, right, then firing three shots on target.

Again, at various distances, moving in the direction commanded, my target ended up looking like this.

I know. That guy next to me, Charles, was doing great. Me, just OK. Here's a close-up.

Still, all hits well within the chest area. Not terrible for this old noob. The next targets used are called "Troubleshooter".

AP1GczP4vHpGT2JLQdcppdJOXpgkZw5rIaFoxIEI4tH7WIPj0kzWihETCaoHPsNIbz_9huQl6qmp_TiVwcxAkLQ8wzjPCjcCn467hB862LBP1a2VRoGrJvX6oQN_UeT6Zp8BiTg1Yscj95FNDPFOL5GfQLepng=w1651-h929-s-no

We were given a "course of action", which targets to shoot in which order (practicing transitions), two hits on the big circles and one hit on the small circles. I managed to remember the proper sequences but I let a couple of hits go a little wide.

AP1GczPBqTpYnk841mDJiPcUrBdAKHOhFKN-LXb7N1k68ar2aYRd_Wjg1AUs6SFIzsf6bV6ASPLRL0PopXkvvh6zah5Eu-Ho6TD7JUMUc0aeVh3CPXTf3s9I1C5sxPuJkBp2XxaBwGRA84ouF-R1c2JCowq9Bw=w1651-h929-s-no

I didn't take a close-up so we'll zoom in a little.

AP1GczPjMe1VxUh1cXRiiBEp5Aoe1n1FryjZnWb19QfpI839mB8gJDC3Vjkk3yF5WcujpZE558FtEunTe7Rdu04WDPQ8RtfJKygGwZqRAYRohrNyks845HLLo1KE8hb4RI6UVBHNau-wjPLxfUbOeiPfjjl8hQ=w1828-h929-s-no

This was at 7 yards. I should work on my transitions a little more often. All but a couple were in the circles, 4" and 2". For the last drill we ran the "Fletcher Drill", a local drill that awards patches and a coin, depending on your time.

AP1GczN5ChZ3a8LuqrNXVi_s0kt_8Y9YAYEtBkwUeFFxNtseWp0NL9WqaJBmEzZl7y_ThrX0b8WITVOPu_F34CO8vCktGQeHSgT0l6pbWLx9jl_f7HgwFZ9MwHS15jHTvl5vnQ9wNhhUiWB5-lXeBGj955T5Gw=w1651-h929-s-no

It's a timed drill. Load 2 magazines with 5 rounds each. Using two targets, at the beep you draw and put 5 shots on the first target (3-chest, 2-head), perform a slidelock reload, then do the same for the second target. 13 seconds is the class standard, 10 seconds is intermediate, 8 seconds is expert, 7 seconds is exceptional (coin). We each ran the drill twice. Here's my target.

AP1GczPfyd5fpgnp7NQlNI220ZqvbLVVmDwNfH_NRkxJ2GUHxKMffvj9gecNzbnOf-k4R_iAfE-lq6LQ_fHOlDya5ja37TAetc5LwJgAIO-2iwitBXgCt--i-leDuHBadg-jO1Hm5spjTl7JkzcOLcQsu909pg=w1651-h929-s-no

There is a one second penalty for hits outside the score zone. On both of my runs I had at least one hit outside the head. Even with the penalty I did pretty good. But I already have the "Intermediate" patch. I was not able to better my standing yet. But I'll keep practicing.

I was a little disappointed with myself. Perhaps I've been having too much fun with my .45s and have neglected my EDC pistols. I'll try to remedy that and reduce my standard deviation. Then I packed up my kit and drove home through our winter wonderland back to the old homestead.
