Greetings!
Yes, you read that correctly. I've managed to pick up two new pistols in the last two weeks. Today's was a Ruger Mark IV Target, 5.5" threaded Bull barrel, adjustable sights, etc.
I knew I'd be shooting a new .22 pistol today so I brought a couple of different types of ammo but I did not shoot the Blazer .22 today. I shot only the Federal. I also shot 50 rounds of 9mm in each XD and 50 rounds in the Garrison .45.
Here's the little armory I brought to practice with today, much like last week's with the addition of the new .22 target pistol.
I placed a few 4" reactive circles on the silhouette and sent it out to 10 yards. I'll start this session by trying to put 10 hits on each using my XDM Elite Precision.
I started with head shots, then left, right, and finally the lower circle. That one doesn't look too bad.
Here's a little closer look at 10 hits on the 4" circle (#4) at 10 yards distance. I guess it's starting to come together.
That was 40 rounds of Blazer 124 grain. For these last 10 hits on center mass, I loaded the Capitol Cartridge 115 grain from 2A Warehouse (house brand). Not too bad, I guess.
Then I put up a B-8 target for 50 rounds through my XD9. Here are the first ten hits. I do believe that is 8 hits in the 10 ring. Wow.
I proceeded to go through four more B-8 target centers with #5 being 10 rounds of the Blazer 124 grain and the first 40 rounds being the 2A Warehouse house brand. I wanted to see if there were any accuracy differences I could blame on the ammo. Yeah, right.
I know some of these don't seem to have ten holes in them, but I promise, I put ten rounds on each target. This one looks pretty dang good.
These last ten rounds were the Blazer 124 grain. Hmm, not as good. But I don't think I can blame the ammo.
This is what the original B-8 target looked like underneath all the centers after I put 50 rounds at it. Look Mom! A big ragged hole!
I got every hit on the black today, and not all that many in the 9 ring. It was a good day. Now let's move on to the Garrison .45. I just put 50 rounds on this 12x18 silhouette, mostly on center mass but the last nine rounds were supposed to be head shots.
Now it's time to try out the new target pistol, Ruger Mark IV 5.5". I had a pretty nice group with the fist ten rounds but I'm going to give the rear sight a little adjustment.
I would fire a few shots, or a whole magazine, then make a few clicks. I ran out of time before I really got it dialed in. The range was closing.
I think next week I'll shoot only a couple of pistols so I can spend more time getting this newest pistol sighted and make sure the XDM is sighted properly. Otherwise it was a really fun day at the range. I feel as if I've gotten over a hump, or at least gotten off a plateau. If I'm this consistent next week with the XDM and XD9 I may start pushing out the distance a little past 10 yards. Thanks for letting me share my fun.
