Greetings and salutations!

This is sort of a milestone, I suppose. I'm happy to let this illustrious company of shootists know that tomorrow marks my 65th circumnavigation around the star at the center of our solar system. As part of the celebration I adopted a new-to-me firearm into my little armory. You've all heard me talking about it and it finally happened. Let's get started.

I arrived at my local range and after filling out all the adoption papers I was assigned lane #10, my favorite lane!

(Note: They're ALL my favorite!) I haven't named her yet but here she is. My 5" Garrison .45 came with three magazines and the original grips. The previous owner had installed grips that were slightly wider with very aggressive stippling. This pistol felt great in my hand. When I clean it I'll take off the grips and try to figure out where they came from. I'm not sure if any other modifications were made but the trigger felt wonderful. Maybe they all feel that way. The sights are stock and I'm seriously considering something else for my aging eyes.

I thought I'd start off easy with the 12x18 silhouette at ten yards. I'd picked up a box of .45 on the way here so I could shoot a few magazines as a test drive. From what I was told there have not been a whole lot of rounds through this pistol. Perhaps I can find the manufacture date via the serial number.

When I'm on lane #10 I will often walk over to lane #1 or #2 to check my alignment with the marks on the wall. Here are the holes produced from the first magazine of my Garrison. The very first shot was low and left. Then I gradually brought them up to center.

Here is the second magazine. I shot only four magazines. You may notice a slight improvement with each magazine.

The third magazine. I'm starting to make bigger holes.

Hey! The fourth magazine had five in the bull and two flyers. I think I'll quit while I'm ahead.

Then I moved on to practice some marksmanship with my trusty XD9. I shot five B-8 targets at ten yards, then five B-8 targets at fifteen yards. This is target #1, everything in the black with one bad flyer.

Target #2 with nine shots all dangerously close to the 10 ring with one flyer in the 8 ring. Drat.

There I go with the "Drat!" again. Target #3 with two in the 8 ring. Double drat!

Target #4, not too bad except for my usual flyer. Drat.

Last target at ten yards today, I let a couple get out of the black but I had a pretty good ragged hole in the X ring.

Then I moved the target out to fifteen yards, forty five feet.

Dang that black spot looks small.

First target at 15 yards (#6), only one "Drat!". The rest are in the black.

With #7 they are all inside the 8 ring. That's pretty good for me at this distance.

Target #8 had a couple get away from me, but they're all still on the paper.

I don't know, maybe I'm getting tired. Target #9 at fifteen yards is starting to look not-so-good.

AL9nZEWg7Vu1xDBwVkx8TcI9ghNqJZrIgj04fDQ8OewJhARoY3RkEMMuBEZpX561TyeMvOOryW3ElMdclt1YBCR9Fjc_NdGyjEKLxyNNanojFVuU1Bl22fn3Eql7qQQUYEB2MFSgOaz9UAUmPDINjjcHG0krjQ=w1236-h927-no

OK, one more at 15 yards before I call it quits for the day. I let one get high out of the 8 ring, but there's not enough in the black. Oh well, that just means more practice!

After completing all the paperwork, shooting only 28 rounds of .45 and 100 rounds of 9mm, it was time to go home. After I stock up on some .45 I'll be able to get more practice with my Garrison and hopefully do better at distance. I'll also need to invest in all the accessories for my new firearm, a laser cartridge, a couple of holsters (IWB and OWB), maybe a couple of CMC 10-round magazines, etc. It will be an adventure! Thanks for putting up with me.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Well continued circumnavigation around the star at the center of our solar system. May the day be happy for you and yours. I have noticed the lane of the day is your favorite ;) . Congrats on your new purchase and nice work on your initial shooting. I'm sure you will enjoy your Garrison, it's a very nice shooting gun.

Hi Bob,

Happy belated birthday Cliff. Today 9/9/22 would have been my little brother’s 52nd birthday. He OD’ed on Fentanyl April 18th 2017. He was unaware the drug he was abusing was fentanyl.

This is always tragic. My nephew's son has been struggling with addiction. The family is fearful that fentanyl could be cut into his substance of choice and lead to a disaster. I hope and pray his latest rehab lasts. I'm so sorry for your loss. Remember the good stuff.

All the best,

Cliff
