Range Report - FN Reflex MRD; CZ S2 Carry

Lab4Us

Professional
Made it back to the range today after a couple weeks to shoot by FN Reflex and CZ Shadow 2 Carry. Main reason was to check out the drop in threaded barrels I purchased for each to use with a recently acquired suppressor.

AND the prodigal son, er, VITAL DUDE, has returned!

I already had 100 rounds on the FN Reflex threaded barrel, so it was going to be 100 more for the FN and 200 for the CZ S2 Carry.

For the FN, first round was 50 Freedom Munitions 147g HP, followed by 50 Federal Syntech Range 124g Total Synthetic Jacket. Had a fail to feed on the 18th round through the FN (a 147g HP). This was first time I tried any 147g, but figured that’s what I’d probably shoot suppressed. The Syntech was flawless.

For the CZ S2 Carry, first two rounds were 50 each Federal American Eagle 124g FMJ, third was Freedom Munitions 147g HP, and fourth was Federal Syntech Range 124g Total Synthetic Jacket. Zero hiccups and put me a bit over 1k flawless rounds on the CZ.

Vital Dude/Tactical Dude drill 6 consecutive times, twice on each target. Almost forgot - started on lane 5, where I used to like to shoot. Since the target was still swinging back and forth after I unpacked everything, decided to move to lane 1 where the target holder is a bit more secure.

5 rounds each shoulder at 3 yds, slow fire
10 rounds center at 5 yds fast as possible
10 rounds center at 10 rounds fast as possible
5 rounds center at 15 yards, slow fire
15 rounds at 3 yards, five strings of 2 to center, one to head

And that concludes my 300 round range day. Both threaded barrels now have 200 rounds on them and work well in the guns they’re in (dropped them both in, no fitting). So next time these two go to the range for practice, some of it will be suppressed! All in all, had a great time, though during the process, all lanes filled up once, though by time I was finished, I was only one again. No one was shooting cannons, so not really distracting.

Nice job!

Hey @Lab4Us,

That CZ Shadow 2 sure is pretty one. Vital Dude, not so much, but it's good to see him again. Nice job putting holes in him. I think that Syntech ammo is good stuff. I've got a box left around here somewhere. I like the way it shoots and need to pick up a few more boxes. Thanks for sharing your fun!

Do you think the square nose on the hollow point was trouble for the feed ramp in the FN?

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Hard to tell with a sample of one. Could have been any of the usual culprits - grip (small gun), round size, round type, round power (925 FPS at muzzle and could have been a light load) etc. I’m not worried about it since it happened once and didn’t happen again. I only got the HP since they didn’t have FMJ when I ordered (in 147g).

damn man...that place has lots of ceiling shooters...

damn man...that place has lots of ceiling shooters...
that is every single indoor range I have been to.
there are a TON of folks that cannot shoot, nor take the time to learn to do so.

the worst are all the knuckleheads that shoot their AR rapid fire with a muzzle brake indoor.
I want to walk up behind them and rip off their headset while they are firing so they get an idea of how much of an A hole they are in an indoor range

Maybe some of the lurkers/trolls on here that pass thru will take the hint on that....

Per the RSO (who wasn’t there yesterday, so not sure there’s actually an RSO 😂), when they are done remodeling everything, there will be some electronics installed that is supposed to notify him, via tablet, when someone hits anything outside their lane (wall, ceiling, floor). First time warning, second time removal. I’ll believe it when I see it.

The side I was on here is considered pistol side, other side (rifles) in much better shape, but no electronics yet. On this pistol side, local agencies also “train” their security staff in firearms - think hospitals and universities (we have three private ones), which sometimes includes shotguns. That is ALWAYS fun to watch 😀.

thing is, there will always be new shooters. at the very least, it ought to be mandatory to take lessons, maybe at the very least...one.

range equipment is expensive, and if numbnutses cannot shoot at the target, then they must be made to take more lessons, otherwise, the costs will rise..and can anyone blame a range or a club for price increases..???

my range will indeed make you take at least 1 lesson, at your expense. if you shoot the ceiling or target carrier.

they do have at the very least 1 RSO during the "breakfast group" of of regulars.

afternoons and certainly the weekends, they have up to 3, as way too many Rambos show up.
