Range Report: Friends with Guns, 7/27/25

Hellcat
Hey folks,

I hope you are enjoying your Sabbath. This morning I played on the worship team at church. Then the music director and I had lunch before we went for a session at the range. Josh had a new-to-him Sig Mosquito he wanted to try out. Somebody was in my favorite lane #10 so we got my other favorite lane #1 and started setting up our kit. I'd brought my Condition 1 case with a few units, and pre-loaded mags!

Since Josh brought his new .22, I brought my newest also. That's my Taurus TX22 TORO next to the Sig Mosquito.

Then we started blasting away. Here's Josh patching up a target.

I did a little research into the Mosquito. Josh bought it used but it didn't seem to have been broken in yet. We tried three different types of ammo and it still would seldom finish a magazine without a malfunction, even when using CCI Mini-mags. I'd brought those along just in case. I broke down the Mosquito and put a drop of oil on the slide and that seemed to help. It tolerated my Federal bulk ammo. We both blasted this target several times.

I think all those hits more toward the center were mine. ;) At one point we both shot at a new B-8 center for score. Josh got an 82 while I got a 97. I'll razz him about that for a while.

Josh hadn't shot my new Gen 5 Glock 17L yet so I let him throw a couple of magazines downrange.

As you can probably tell, we shot at 10 yards for this whole session. Josh wants to practice more so I think I've just about talked him into getting a membership here. We'll see. After he patched up this target for me, I put a magazine on it. You'd think I would've done better with that 6" barrel.

I decided to keep hammering away on this one. It's not really glam shot worthy, but I took this picture just to remind me what pistol I was shooting.

If you give me the line breaks, there's just a couple out of the 9 ring.

Then Josh had to leave before we got to my XD45 Mod2. I already had six magazines loaded so I tossed'em downrange. The first three mags managed to make a big ragged hole, with a little bit trailing sort of low and left.

I thought I could do a little better so I patched it up and sent it back to 10 yards. I put 2 magazines on the center and one magazine on the head. It came back like this.

OK, I guess that was a little better. Here's a close approximation of a glam shot.

And that was how Josh and I spent our afternoon. If you'd like to see how we spent our morning, here's the feed from service. We play three songs up front but there are "announcements" in between. Feel free to fast-forward. ;) Thanks for hanging out!

As usual, good range report and good shooting

Range report 7/29.
Just got back from the range. Haven’t been since before wife’s surgery June 17th. A little rusty and slower on the timed shots but put it together after awhile.
Long guns at 30 yards. Didn’t get pics of target (wife threw them away), all in lower A in the beginning. Forgot to raise my sights lol but I began to remember after awhile.
My precious in Luna Blk:

Red dots on the XFive Legions. Baer at 10 yds, in the 8’s from our holsters. Those center ones slowed me down.
IMG_7357.jpeg

Dot torture at 7 yds. A little rusty with my off hand lol.

We were a little slow initially, but once I got my grip and rhythm it turned out to be a great day. Just happy that the wife is healing up and able to pew pew.

Hey! Very nice work! Yeah, those dot torture targets are murder. I'm still shooting it at 5 yards on my laser range but yours looks much better. I'll try one live soon and post it, so you can laugh.
