Greetings ladies and gentlemen,
I love getting out to the range mid-week during mid-day. There was only one other shooter this afternoon. Even though I could have, I resisted the urge to run a 10-10-10 drill and just practice accuracy although some of it wasn't exactly slow-fire. Already this week I had received new targets, some new lenses for my shooting glasses, and a case of ammo. I like these reactive targets.
These lenses I ordered have a top-focal lens, like a bi-focal on top, in order for these old cataract eyes to see the front sight better. These are a little bit stronger (1.75) and actually let me see my sight picture more clearly. I had been using 1.50.
I had a special reason for going to the older facility today. If you haven't guessed yet I'll give you all the details at the end. I was able to procure my favorite lane.
Today I'm working with only my XD45 Mod2 Tactical and XDM Elite Precision, 100 rounds through each. It's been a while since I've practiced with my EDC. I'll do that next week.
Shooting at 10 yards today, I started with the XD45 putting ten hits on the 4" circles. I shot the chest first and let a few get low. I shot the head second and got all but two hits on the target.
I patched up the targets and did a bit better with my third and fourth magazines. Eight hits on both targets with a couple of near misses.
For my third set of targets I used modified B-8 centers. Not too bad.
I think this was my best target today using the XD45. Glam shot!
Here's my last pair of B-8 centers using the XD45. I let the groups spread out a little. Sorry.
For the last twenty rounds I used the 12x18 reactive silhouette. What's been normal for me lately, especially after I've warmed up a bit, is for me to put the first few hits right in the bullseye. But then I start wandering about. Next time I'm actually going to try the laser on this pistol. I don't even know if it's been sighted in or at what distance.
I guess I see a little improvement. There's only a couple of hits outside the 9 ring. I'm getting there, slowly. Now let's see what we can do with the XDM Elite. Again, I'll be putting 10 hits each on the pair of targets.
Wow, that really spread out. This pistol is quite different from the XD45. Let's see if I can settle down with this one. Here's the second set of targets, without the colored bullseyes.
OK, those are tighter groups but I'm wondering if I have to adjust the rear sight a click or two. Let me refine my sight picture first. Here is the third set of targets with the XDM Elite.
One flyer out of the black but otherwise the groups are more centered with six hits in the 10 ring. That's a little better than average for me. The fourth set of targets will be 8" reactive circles. I was starting to rush these because I was having too much fun and told Mrs. BassCliff I'd be home in time for supper.
OK, last target of the day. I'm trying to put 20 hits on this 12x18 silhouette. Once I get rid of a few flyers and chew out the bullseye a little more I can increase the distance.
OK, and now the other reason I visited the older facility today. A couple months ago I tossed $20 at a members-only raffle. I got a call this morning saying that I'd won! What did I win? This!
Century Arms WASR-10 (AKM/AK-47 style) with one 30 round magazine. Woot! If I'd known I was going to win I would've bought a ticket for something I had ammo for. That's OK. I'll figure out a way to feed it. Hopefully I'll have time tomorrow to get it cleaned up, along with my pistols, and start shopping for 7.62x39. I'm already looking at upgrades but, I tell you, I like all the stock wood furniture. It's got that classic look that a new Magpul folding stock and grip, MI M-LOK hand guard, etc, would ruin. I'm looking forward to bringing you a range report with my new range toy. Now to find an AK-47 forum.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff
