Howdy y'all!
You might not've noticed but I did not make it to the range last week for a practice session. My schedule was just a little too busy. The little break seems to have done me good because this week I demonstrated some above average marksmanship compared to my usual mediocrity. I tried a few strings of different stuff but mostly tried to get comfortable with my new optics and have some fun with my S&W 686 Plus. After lunch today I procured my favorite lane #10.
Pay no attention to that old geezer reflected in the window. You've seen these two pistols quite often lately, the XD9 Mod.3 and Echelon 4.5F Comp, both with Holosun HE507-X2 green dot, and the 7-shot S&W .357 magnum.
I shot the 124 grain Blazer through the Mod.3 and the 124 grain Remington through the Echelon. The 686 got the Freedom .357 125 grain. The range wasn't too busy so I tried to shoot a cold 10-10-10 drill. But just as I got started someone else got started too. The timer got all messed up but the target wasn't too bad except for the first wild shot. This was under the 10 second par time but I didn't score it.
Then the guy left so I was able to get a good 10-10-10 run with the timer. It wasn't a "cold" drill but, I guess you could call it "lukewarm". I got a one second penalty for the hit outside the black but still scored 95 points under the par time.
Here's the video to prove it.
First is the messed up timer followed by the good 10-10-10 run.
Because we were talking about weak hand only shooting, I decided to try a few strings with my left hand. The targets got better as I shot but I still need more practice.
Finally, at least this one had all 10 hits on the 8.5x11 B-8 center target.
One of the bigger issues I had with W.H.O. was finding the dot when presenting with my left hand. With my right hand it's no problem. Again, just more practice. Then I wanted to practice with a little extra distance. I sent another B-8 center out to 15 yards and put two 15 round mags on it. I'm getting there.
Is that good enough for a glam shot?
For the Mod.3 finale, I put 15 hits on my favorite target at 10 yards.
I know we're supposed to spread out our defensive shots, but I was trying for a nice, tight group. For grins and giggles, I decided to enter the raffle. If you put one hit on each egg you get two entries for the price of one. They are giving away a CZ Shadow this month. I think that's worth a chance for $10.
The guy behind the counter was generous with the line breaks and let me have two entries for my $10. I might try it again next week. Now it's time to work out with the Echelon. I changed targets and put 20 hits on the 3x5 card.
Well, almost 20 hits. I'll try that again.
Drat, all but two on the 4" reactive circle, but still all on the card. Yay me. I had 10 more cartridges for the Echelon. I patched up my favorite target and sent it to 10 yards. It came back like this. Glam shot!
Now it's time to play with the 6" 686 Plus. I put 21 hits on this target using single action, cocking the hammer.
Then I put three cylinders (21 hits) on this target using double action. Hence the spread.
That left 8 bullets from that box of 50, so I (tried to) put four on center mass and four in the head, single action. I love the trigger when I cock the hammer.
I turned in my raffle target, got two tickets for the giveaway, and made my way home. I was almost pleased with my practice session today. I think I'll do it again next week. Blessing to all of you. Thanks for hanging out.
Thank you for your indulgence,
