Salutations,
It was a lovely Spring day here in the Wild Wild Upper Midwest. Since all my chores were done for the week and today's rehearsal got cancelled, I took advantage of the extra free day and put some lead downrange.
I brought my two newest pistols (XD45 Mod.2 Tactical, H&K VP9), 100 rounds of S&B 124 grain, 50 rounds of LAX Ammo 230 grain, and set myself up on my favorite lane #5.
I loaded up all my magazines and got started on my plan for today, target transitions and mag changes. First was the XD45 putting 10 hits on each target with a slidelock reload in between.
I did pretty good with the head shots but the others got a little wild as I sped up. That's 30 rounds out of the 50 .45ACP that I brought today. For the next exercise I'll put up three new targets for 10 hits on the head and 5 hits each on the B-8 center and the little USPSA silhouette.
OK, I guess that didn't suck too bad. If you gimme the line breaks you could say all five hits are in the "A" box.
Continuing with the exercise, it's time for 100 rounds through the VP9. Here's the fist target, ten hits on each, mag change, transition to the next target, starting from the top.
At least the top target has all 10 hits inside the 8" reactive circle. The middle target has hits all in the black (line break!) with 6 in the 10 ring, and the bottom target has only 2 hits outside the "A" box (more line breaks, please!). If I'd slowed down a little I probably could've done better but I was having too much fun. Here's target #2 for the VP9 with a string of ten thrown at each.
It looks like the top target and middle target groups tightened up a little, even though there's fewer hits in the 10 ring. Drat. The bottom target still has seven hits in the "A" box.
Now I'll practice a little at 15 yards with the VP9. Wish me luck.
I did slow down for this one, trying to aim at the "smaller" targets and not the targets that were farther away. I guess this is OK for my first try.
You see all 10 hits on the top reactive circle. That's pretty cool. The other two have at least one bad flyer but generally good "combat" accuracy. For grins and giggles, here are close-ups of the individual targets at 15 yards with my VP9.
If you guys are generous with your line breaks one could say that I got all the hits inside the little USPSA target.
OK, I've got 10 rounds left and I've saved my favorite target to go for total accuracy. I'll move back to 10 yards.
These old eyes still think that's a long way away.
Here goes nothin'! It comes back like this.
Drat. I'm sorry gang. I'm livin' on the line breaks. If you're generous there are only two hits out of the 10 ring on this one. I know I can do better than that but I can't prove it because I'm out of ammo. Or am I? I just happened to remember that there are a few loose rounds floating around in my range bag leftover from my training session earlier this week. I went scrounging through my bag and found six cartridges at the bottom. So I patched up this target and sent it back out to 10 yards. It came back like this.
OK, not too bad. How about a glam shot?
One of these days I'll get all 10 hits in this bullseye. Until then I'll just keep practicing. I don't mind practicing at all.
I think I mentioned earlier that if the weather is decent I'm going to drive South for an hour to visit a friend's outdoor range. He wants to shoot black powder, muzzle loader pistol with percussion caps, and .22LR so I'll bring a few of mine to plink with. I'll be sure to let you know how much fun I had. Thanks for letting me share. Until then, be blessed.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff
