Hey gang,
There were about 30 of us in the classroom this morning, most of us USCCA members and range members.
We covered a lot of material, most I was aware of but I learned a couple of things.
The USCCA firearms instructor, Bob, and Lt. Nick from the County Sheriff Department, spent a lot of time talking about this chart, the "Use-Of-Force Continuum".
Here's a close-up. We talked about Castle Doctrine, Stand Your Ground, Duty To Retreat, what constitutes a threat of death or great bodily harm, etc.
In my state there is no "duty to retreat" but there is no "stand your ground" law either, except in your castle. We discussed various incidents, hypothetical and real-life, and whether or not it would be a good idea to discharge our firearm. There are a lot of moving parts.
Then we got to try out some CZ products!
Of course, I chose the Shadow 2 to try out. It's a beautiful firearm.
We got 5 shots to try out the CZ. I sent my target out to 10 yards.
I quickly put 5 hits on it. The gun felt great, the trigger was reeeeally nice. My first shot was a little low/left but still in the high center chest. The other four were grouped nicely in the center. Not bad for being without my special shooting glasses and using iron sights. It took no time to get used to that trigger.
I was thinking my next firearm purchase was going to be the S&W M&P FPC in 10mm (to compliment my new XDM 10mm), but I'm re-thinking that choice. I may have to rearrange my priorities.
It was an informative and fun seminar. Monday we'll have our Advanced Defensive Pistol class outdoors at the sister range. Hopefully it won't rain on us. This might be our last outdoor class before it gets too cold. Thanks for letting me share. Be brave. Do good.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff
