Greetings and Salutations,
I was a bit distracted today and got a late start to the range but managed to shoot all the ammo I brought (only 200 rounds). It was an amazingly average day at the range. I wanted to try the Echelon 4.5F Comp one more time and get back to the EDC I've been carrying lately. It's been a while since I've shot any of my EDC rotation. Shame on me. I put 100 rounds through each handgun plus a bunch of .22 through the new TX22 TORO, just because it's FUN! I went to the newer range a couple of towns over. We've had light rain all day long.
My buddy behind the counter called me by name when I walked in (the fourth time he's seen me in less than a week) and gave me my favorite lane, #7.
Today I'll be working with my VP9, Echelon 4.5F Comp, and the TX22 TORO. The Winchester NATO is for the Echelon, Blazer Brass for the VP9, and Federal blue box (and a little bit of Armscor) for the TX22.
I thought I'd combine targets today and have a little head-to-head between the two 9mm pistols. This was the first round, five different targets, putting 10-shot strings on each.
First up is the Echelon at 10 yards. The targets came back with these holes in them.
Drat, a lot of low-left in this first round. I did not hit the 2" circle a single time. The red circles contain those 10 hits for those targets. I shot the reactive bullseye first, that seems to be the best out of the bunch. Next up is the same setup for the VP9, one of my EDC rotation. It recently got a sight upgrade with the SpeedSight tritium diamonds. I love these sights. The VP9 targets came back from 10 yards with these holes in them.
I think that's a little better shooting despite the shorter barrel. The three red arrows show you the hits that almost made it onto the 4" reactive circle in the middle. The rest were at least all on the paper with the lower right B-8 center looking pretty good, only two hits outside the 10-ring. Next up are a couple of B-8 targets with 20 rounds fired at them from 10 yards. The Echelon's came back like this.
As you can see, still low-left. I'm going to patch this up and see if I can do better with the next 20 rounds. Here's target #2 for this round.
OK, that's better, but still too much low-left. I'll give myself a small "atta-boy" just because there's only one hit outside the 8-ring. Now, even though I'm not shooting that well today, I'm still going to push one target out to 15 yards and try to put 10 hits on it. Here's my 15 yard target with the Echelon.
One of these days I'll be more consistent when pressing the trigger straight back. Three hits on the 7-ring. Guh!
OK, now we're going to run that same series with the VP9. The first B-8 with 20 hits at 10 yards came back like this.
That is much better grouping. Still, I'd love to get all of those in the black. Let's tape on another B-8 center and try 20 more hits.
We'll that's so typical of me. I believe I have more hits in the 10-ring but there are also more hits outside the black. Can you say "inconsistent"? Let's try 10 hits at 15 yards.
I'll hang my head in shame. Other than all of the hits on the same sheet of paper, you can't say much about that target. I'll slow down a little more next time. I know I can shoot the VP9 better than this at 15 yards.
Moving on to the TX22. Dang, this is just a fun pistol. I'd brought along a box of Armscor .22 LRN because most of my other .22s hate this ammo. I stuffed 50 rounds in three magazines and put it on this target at 10 yards.
Guess what? There were no malfunctions. Well, one cartridge failed to fire. I stuck it back in the magazine and it fired the second time. Then I loaded up all the magazines, four 16-round and one 22-round, and sent an 8" reactive circle out to 15 yards. Just for fun!
Let's see, if I did the math right, (4x16)+22=86. That's how many rounds I put on this target, with a huge smile on my face.
And if I'm not mistaken, all of them made it on the target. (Line breaks!) If I slowed down a little I might be able to make a bigger, raggedy-er hole. But this pistol is so much fun, it's hard to shoot slow. Next time, ...maybe.
I've got to get home to let my dog out. But first I ran down the hall to wash up with some D-Lead soap.
My dog was glad to see me when I got home. It was past his supper time. I got a late start today because I decided to clean up and reorganize my ammo closet, plus take a little inventory. Here's nine cases of 9mm, and a half case of Gold Dot.
Plus another 4 cases downstairs, and whatever is in my active ammo boxes. Here's some .45, .556, and a couple cases of 12ga.
There's a case of .223 and 7.62 downstairs too. Seems I have 6000+ rounds of .22LR and a few magnum. Can you ever have too much ammo? I know this is a paltry amount compared to some of you folks. I guess I need to build up my long gun ammo inventory. I'll be keeping my eye out for good deals. At least it all fits much better in my closet now. Mrs. BassCliff will be happy.
Since the yard work I had planned for tomorrow I was able to do this afternoon, I thought about going to the range again. But instead I'll clean a few filthy pistols. The Echelon and the TX22 probably hate me by now.
Altogether it was a pretty nice Wednesday. I hope all of your are living your best life as well.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff
