Howdy y'all!
I had a quick session at the range today. I remembered to check out an H&K VP9 as suggested by @Bassbob. The 4" model was the only one behind the counter, not the SK or tactical models. That's OK, we'll give'r a go. I got lane #1, my favorite.
I had the range all to myself for most of my time but I did not run any timed drills, strictly accuracy fundamentals.
I brought along some regular practice ammo, 125 rounds of 9mm Blazer 124 grain, 50 rounds of LAX .45ACP 230 grain, and I had to buy a box of range ammo with my "free" rental VP9, the Magtech 115 grain.
I started shooting 10-shot strings with my XD45 Mod2. After a couple of "warm up" mags the targets started to shape up. This is #3.
Target #4 deserved a glam shot.
I did turn on the laser today but when I aligned my sight picture I realized the laser pointer needed adjustment. I'll get that adjusted in my basement laser range as soon as I get a chance. For my last magazine I put 10 hits on the 12x18 reactive silhouette.
Yes, all targets were at 10 yards today. Next up is the VP9 rental using the Magtech ammo. I just had fun and put 30 rounds on this first target.
Then I got out a brand new target for the last 20 rounds. I guess that's not too terrible for the first time with this gun.
It did feel good in my hand and the sights were nice and bright yellow. I like the ambidextrous nature of the controls on this gun. Mrs. BassCliff is a lefty so I'm going to see if she'll give this one a try but the grip might be too big for her.
Next up is my EDC XD9. I put up a new target and put another 20 rounds on it to compare. Whatta ya think?
It seems the last 20 rounds with the VP9 were grouped a little tighter than the first 20 rounds of the XD9. Let's continue with the XD9. I noticed the Blazer 124 grain has just a little more kick than the Magtech 115 grain. I'm going to put a bunch of rounds (40-ish) on these next two targets and see if I can make a big ragged hole like some of you big dogs.
For my last 10 shots I'm going to settle down and really try to show you something.
And that's all the fun I get to have today. It was a really nice drive home. The weather's more like spring now so I'm going to try and get some time at an outdoor range very soon. It's been a while.
I'm planning another range day later this week. I'm going to do more stuff right so I can tighten up these groups, and maybe try some single hand practice too. Thanks for coming along. See you soon.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff
