Well folks,
I took three filthy pistols back to the range today. This is their fifth trip without being cleaned. They've all had 250-400 rounds through them so it's definitely time. They will be cleaned before the next time they are fired. I pinky promise.
Yesterday afternoon it was 55° here, and then last night it snowed. It was 19° on the way to the range. Thankfully all the roads were plowed.
I obtained my favorite lane, lucky #7, and set up my kit. I was quite pleased that when I walked on the range I was alone.
These are the dirty, dirty pistols here for another workout. Ronin 1911 9mm, XDM Elite 5.25 Precision, VP9, which all used Blazer Brass 124 grain today.
Yes, I got out my timer thinking I'd run a few 10-10-10 drills. But before I could load up some mags three more lanes got occupied, one guy with an obnoxious AR. Oh well. All targets were sent to 10 yards, except for a a couple of scenario drills I'll tell you about later. Most target got 10 hits and others got 15 or 20.
Starting with the VP9, I thought I could run a 10-10-10 drill in between the other guys but their rounds got in the way of my timer. This was the first target. I was under 10 seconds but my spread was a bit too wide.
I thought I'd try again but to no avail. So I shot just for accuracy, or a reasonable facsimile thereof.
Target #3 with the VP9. I should be doing better than this.
I'm finally settling down a little with target #4. I got 8 hits in the 10 ring.
I thought I'd try a different target to tighten my group.
Alas, mediocre is all I'll get with the VP9 today. I took a video of a programmed target scenario using the VP9. I'll share that later. Let's move on to the XDM. This patched up target is the one I used for the VP9 scenario. I put 20 rounds on this with the XDM.
Except for that low flyer, the rest are all pretty close to being inside the 9 ring. Line breaks! I put 15 rounds on this next target with the XDM using one of the programmed scenarios called "5x3" at 7 yards. The carrier takes the target to 7 yards then flips it to face you five time for three seconds apiece. I put three hits on the target from low ready each time it turned toward me.
However, I did not video this sequence. I did take video of the VP9 and Ronin. I'll show those at the end. This was the last 15 rounds through the XDM on a B-8 center. If I'd slowed down just a little perhaps they would all be in the black.
Next up was the Ronin. I was having fun with the Ronin. I shot it a lot today. Some of it was pretty good. The hits started high so I adjusted my hold.
That adjustment helped, closer to the center but still a little left.
I switched to the 1/3 size USPSA silhouette. Yes, definitely left.
It was at this point that I actually gave the rear sight a couple of clicks and tried again.
A little better. I'm going to try another click or two.
I'm going to call that close enough. When I push the trigger straight back, it hits just fine. Now let me show you the video from the scenario drills. Again, at 7 yards the carrier would flip the target toward me five time for three seconds at a time. The first video is the VP9 putting three hits per flip. The second video is the Ronin putting two hits per flip.
There are a few other pre-programmed scenarios available. It's fun stuff. I'm going to use this feature more in the future. Just for fun, here is the VP9's scenario target, fifteen hits, three at a time. Only four really bad flyers.

Those flyers, you noticed in the video, were the first two shots. After that I knew I had enough time to get a proper sight picture. For a little extra added fun today, I entered a "target raffle". After paying the entry fee you get a maximum of five shots to put three on the scarf at five yards. If you put one on the nose you get an extra entry for free. I put five rounds in my VP9 and used only four to get the job done.
Sure, lots of other guys shot this well so it'll be up to the luck of the draw. At least I've got two entries. Wish me luck. Maybe I'll by more entries to improve my chances. We'll see. The winner will be announced at the end of the month. But I don't even remember what they are giving away. It don't matter. I won a raffle here a couple years ago. That was my AK-47. I gotta get it out of the safe sometime soon. It's been a while. Anyway, thanks for hanging out with me this evening. I appreciate you guys.
