Hi,
'Twas the week before Christmas, I went to the range.
My favorite was open, but that wasn't strange.
Three pistols were placed on the bench with care,
With hopes that the ammo soon would be there.
The targets were hung and sent out a ways,
And they all came back with not too many strays.
First was the Ronin, sending 10-shot strings,
At 10 yards it did some pretty good things.
Target #2 was aimed at a card.
It's a good thing this wasn't in my back yard.
Target 3 showed a place where many hits entered.
It's too bad they were not a little more centered.
I think target 4 was the best of the lot.
So let's give the Ronin its glamour shot.
To finish up the fun in this part of our session,
Let's use 20 rounds to teach this target a lesson.
OK, I can't rhyme any more.
So I'll let you know that I did give the rear sight windage two clicks on the Ronin and it really seems to help, as long as I was paying attention. All the targets were at 10 yards today, mostly 10-shot strings with a few 20-shot strings for the last target on each pistol. Next up was the XDM Elite Precision 5.25". We'll start with a 3x5 card on the small silhouette.
The XDM is SO different from the Ronin. Let me get a handle on it and try again. Target #2, another 3x5 card with something to focus on.
There ya go, that's better. At least they're all on the card. My trigger discipline is not allowing me to hit the red circle. Drat. Next target is a B-8 center.
Meh. Brain fart on a couple, otherwise (with line breaks) there are eight hits in the 10 ring. Now I'll stick on the 8" reactive circle and try to be more consistent.
Still have to work on my consistency. Now let's put 20 rounds on my favorite reactive target.
Ya know, I'll bet if I took only this pistol to the range and practiced the whole session, 100-150 rounds, I'd get a better handle on it. I didn't even bother with a glam shot for this pistol. I was a little disappointed with myself. Next up is the VP9. Since this pistol has my favorite sights, I'm hoping to shoot it better. Target #1 is the 3x5 card.
OK, just one hit off the card but still doing damage on the silhouette. Let's try another 3x5, target #2.
About the same, at least the miss is a little closer.
Target #3 will be a B-8 center.
All right. Pretty good. If you give me a line break they are all in the 10 ring. Glam shot? Sure, why not?
Now let's put 20 rounds on the reactive silhouette.
OK, ok. I know. I need to pay attention to ALL of my shots. It really is a mental thing with me, especially when I'm using the reactive targets. I'll see two or three hits go exactly where I want, then get in a hurry, or complacent, or distracted, etc, and one will go low because my eye is off the front sight and I don't notice my trigger press pulling it off.
So I packed up my kit and got ready to leave.
I thought to myself, "This would be nice to receive."
I hope you all enjoy your Christmas Holiday. Emmanuel, God with us.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff
