Good morning all,
It's Monday and I've got nothing to do. So, I think I'll go to the range. The older facility is closed on Mondays so I visited the newer facility on this cool autumn day.
There were a few shooters when I arrived but it wasn't too busy. I got my favorite lane, #7.
I did not bring my usual B-8 target today. I used small silhouettes with B-8 centers and other targets taped in front. Today I'll continue getting familiar with my new XDM Elite OSP 10mm 4.5 (100 rounds). I'll also shoot my Ruger Mark IV Target (100 rounds) and XD9 Mod.3 (50 rounds) with Holosun optic. I'll start with the 10mm.
Working with the XDM 10mm, I'll shoot at 10 yards using mostly 10-shot strings on a variety of targets.
I'll let you know right now, I could not get my mojo working today. I shot this pistol a lot better last week. After sticking on the yellow dot for contrast, I still could not get a tight group.
I guess it's not too horrible, only three outside the 9-ring. I was a little more low-left with this pistol today and kept adjusting my grip. Here's target #2.
That low hit off the paper is really embarrassing. Please forgive me. Here's target #3.
Ah, yes. My mediocrity abounds. I'll change the target and see if it makes any difference. Here's target #4 with ten hits.
Well, that is actually a little better. Let's try a shoot-n-see target so the whole range can bask in the glow of my mediocrity.
Yeah, see, most of the hits are in the low-left quadrant but at least they all made it onto the 8" circle. Sometimes you have to take the little victories. I'm going back to the small USPSA target for #6.
I'm really having an off day with this pistol. Maybe I'll try my gloves next time. For target #7 I tried my "aim small, miss small" 2" circle grid.
Hmm, I think that's the tightest group so far today, certainly the most centered. Glam shot?
Now I'm going to use another 8" shoot-n-see and put two full magazines on it, 30 rounds, hoping for a raggedy hole.
Well phooey! Again, most of the hits in the low-left quadrant. Should I take this one out one more trip? Or should I give it a rest and revisit the 10mm and a few weeks? I don't know. We'll see. For now, I'm going to work with my Ruger Mark IV Target pistol with the threaded barrel. I oiled the bolt really well before starting and had only one FTE today out of 100 rounds. I also had one failure to fire from the Federal Champion 36 grain.
I had a quick course of action with the .22, just 50 rounds at 10 yards followed by 50 rounds at 15 yards. This is the target at 10 yards.
I wish my eyes were better. I think I could tighten up that group. At 15 yards the group spread even more.
This is a fun little pistol to shoot. I'm a little surprised that all the hits were on the target. I'm wondering if I could fit some kind of scope on this pistol. That might be fun. Anyway, I'll be right back in the next post to show you the targets from my Mod.3. Thanks for hanging out.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff
