Reddot

Even among competitive shooters, opinions vary. Some was 8 to 12 MOA, others want 2 to 3.

I personally prefer 4 to 6 MOA - big enough to see at speed, but not so big I can’t aim at a specific part of the a zone on a target or a 10” plate at a distance.

On a rifle not for competition, I like 2 or 3 MOA. I’m wanting a small dot for a small point in a small target.

I have an astigmatism, and getting progressive lenses for everyday use and for shooting glasses made all the difference in the world. With the astigmatism correction, every dot and reticle is crystal clear.

My failing vision led me to trying dot optics could no longer focus on iron front sights. Choosing the right dot size greatly depends on what you use your pistol for, target shooting, home and/or personal defense. I chose the 6moa dot for every day concealed carry and home defense pistols. All though it is possible to encounter a potential deadly threat at a distant range 15 yards or less makes sense to me. A 6moa dot is, for me, much easier for me to pick up than a 2 or 3moa dot.

I like the ability to do both. The green Holosun donut reticle does that very well. All of them co-witness and the big circle makes picking it up easy when you're off balance, shooting off hand or most other situations where your draw stroke isn't optimal. And the dot in the middle is fine enough to hit bulls at 25 yards with if that's your thing.

I'm not a target shooter. I decided a long time ago if I could hit a 4" target, rapidly and consistently in less than optimal situations, stationary or moving I was doing good.

Same on the vision. When messing around at the range i will run the 2moa dot but typically have the donut death reticle (Bassbob, TAL) on. If maths is correct it represents about 5” at 15 yards, so if i got good tone, i got ya :)

The big circle doesn't interfere at all with the dot. For me anyway. So I just leave it on.

And it's supremely useful on shotguns.
