Hello all. this is my first post and I'm hoping maybe someone can help me with this. I would like to know if any of you have tried reloading 5.56 nato to fit a .223 Rem bolt action rifle. The closest I've come was simply cutting down the neck to meet the .223 OAL but still feels a little tight. Has anyone produced a neck sizing die to help with chambering issues?

The cases/brass are the exact same diamentionally. The only case/brass difference is max pressure.

If the neck is tight use a neck sizer for what's needed

Thank you all for replying back, much appreciated. So what I've done so far is trim the 5.56 brass to the .223 OAL. I.ve done all of the case prep required after the trim and I went back in and re-sized the neck. I made a couple of dummy rounds to verify headspace. I'm using Lee dies which I've been using for many years without issue. I carefully loaded the rounds into the chamber but it still feels a little crunchy. I'm going to try and trim about another 10,000 and play that game. I've also talked to a gunsmith friend to inspect the forcing cone, just in case.
Something I have noticed though the angle of the neck varies by manufacturer. Now that doesn't mean much to the naked eye but it does put into question the forcing cone.
I'm going to have play a bit more until I'm happy.

Both should be trimmed to 1.750", some bullet manufacturers that produce reloading data can give different trim to lengths. 1.750" is most common.

As long as you have everything chamber in 5.56nato or 223wylde you can use both 223rem and military brass. Forgot the 223rem max pressure as it's only for chamberings in 223rem.
