As a native Rhode Islander, I am thoroughly ashamed (but totally unsurprised) by my former state. As disgusting as it may seem to all of you, it's on par for RI. In fact, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Totally corrupt solid blue state.
I was stopped by Bristol PD once while heading to a restaurant to meet a friend, simply because I had a few gun stickers on my car. The cop didn't mention speed or anything else, just asked about my stickers and if I was armed (I wasn't as I planned on having a beer) and kept calling it "his town", e.g. "Just want to know if you're bringing guns into my town". I wasn't speeding, weaving, blowing red lights or stop signs, etc. I asked the cop a few times why he stopped me, but he ignore me and just wanted to talk about "my gun situation". Eventually I told he could search me and the car if he wanted. He didn't. He just wanted to make a strong impression that I wasn't welcome in HIS town with gun stickers and out-of-state plates.
During the stop, I shot a quick text to my friend telling him he can find me back in Massachusetts if he wanted to have dinner. After the stop was over, I turned myself right around and scooted for the state line. I've been avoiding RI like the plague ever since. The government, the cops, the residents... they're all batsh*t crazy.
Meanwhile if you're an illegal, a drunken college student, or anyone else really... you're fine. The double standard is ridiculous.
RI is also the only state you could conceivably hit traffic in Providence at 3am on Christmas eve. The state is under a CONSTANT state of construction.
If you've never been to RI, consider yourself blessed. If you have, my sympathies. And getting an LTC in RI through the state AG is near impossible.
