I have friends in the film industry and I was gutted to find out that Duvall didn’t get along with most people and was particularly hard on the crew. Iconic actor, but not a pleasant man.

Oh man what a great actor! Lonesome Dove, Open Range, the Air Cav Colonel in Apocalypse Now, Second Hand Lions were iconic roles that only he could have pulled off. There were others but those come to mind right away. RIP Gus!

I dreaded this day. He was one of my favorite living actors, and truthfully maybe the only one. He was good in everything, including (most impressively) some otherwise poor movies.

Agree. Kilgore was a great character, but Duvall was Gus McCrae.
