Saturday Afternoon Range Visit

Well, I probably shouldn't have but I have missed way too much range time in the last couple of months so...and I wanted to try out the new trigger in the 509C. It wasn't very busy at the pistol range today so I didn't have to wait for a lane. I brought my 509 and the 509C that has a new trigger installed. I always feel better after I practice and I didn't want to jam out just because I hurt.

I set my kit up in my lane and set my target out to 10 yards. I started with my "feel good" gun, the 509. I had three mags loaded with 124gr and two with 147.

So this was the warm up target. My "feel good" gun wasn't making me feel that good, but I don't think it was too bad for having a wounded wing. 😎 This was the first two mags with 124gr.

Swapped out the target, ran it back out to 10 and did the last mag with 124 and then the 147s.

Wasn't doing too badly, but you can see where I was starting to hurt more...

So next up was the 509C with the new trigger. Let's just say that it (the trigger) needs breaking in as much as the gun does ;). This gun needs a few hundred rounds put through it to make it feel even close to its big brother. By this time I really didn't care, I am still basically feeling out this gun. It'll be fine once I shoot the 💩 out of it.
Here's that target..

Yeah...not my best performance at all, but any practice is good practice, right? 😊. I was swapping out mags during this run and a guy came up behind me. He was a LE veteran. He gave me a couple of targets to use next time. Never had that happen before, but hey...I'll take all the help I can get ;).

So that was my range adventure this weekend. It's sad that I have to drive 60 miles to shoot, but it's better than being arrested for shooting off my deck. I did learn today that they are running some pretty good courses though our range this year. There are quite a few NRA certified instructors that are offering beginner and advanced defensive pistol courses, and they are now offering AR courses. It's good to see. We've needed this for a while in these parts.

Until next time y'all..

Hey @belladonna!

I'm glad you got out for some fun. Hope you're feeling better after your slip and fall. Yeah, for playing hurt, your targets look just fine, especially with new gear. I'm still working with my newer pistols too. I get a little better each time I take them out, as they break in and i get familiar with them.

That's a pretty nice pistol range you have there. I like your case too, with all the extra storage. Mine's just pistols and mags.

When are you talking out your new shotgun? Great to hear that you'll have a chance at some run-n-gun classes. Good stuff.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Why are you throwing 124gr vs. 115gr other than personnel preference or does the gun not cycle well with 115gr.

Like @BassCliff, I carry 124gr hollow points, so there's that consistency thing. These FNs do not like 115gr. It started with my Reflex, and then the 509, so I didn't even bother trying 115 in the 509C. On the other hand, I still run 115gr through my VP9 and the SK. They eat everything. I also run it through my PDP and my M&Ps. My guns, like me, like some variety.

The reason I asked is because some semi-auto striker fired pistols don't do well w/115gr rds. They don't cycle as they should. In my case I don't see a need to step up to 124gr if all is well @ 115gr. My Sig P320 behaves just fine with a diet of 115's. Besides, ballistically who actually notices any difference between the two. Whereas I believe a case of 115 might be a shade cheaper as well.

I get you. I have a healthy supply of both mainly because of the FNs. I shoot 147gr at times (got a bunch on sale), and I can definitely tell the difference between 124 and 147. 115 and 124 are so close I can't, but those darn guns can.
