Senior in NY- What can I Carry for Safety?

I am close to your age and I would carry a gun. I live in a gun friendly state which makes it easy for me to say but at an advanced age that is your best choice. If I lived in a restrictive state I would still carry a gun.

A belated thank you for all the helpful input. Among other things (eg tools), I hooked up with a senior-friendly martial arts instructor whose expertise is in the Filipino martial arts (Kali). He will start with empty hand Panantukan and then move to 'tools'.

72 yr old Long Island NY senior here. Was wondering what options/recommendations there might be for self defense tools. Had a couple run-ins over recent years. Firearms are an issue here. Currently carrying Pepper gel and stun gun. Hoping for some knowledgeable feedback.

Also, I see claims (eg. vipertek 989) of 300m volts but also see high praise for eg Runt stun gun at 80m volts. . I read that amperage is the key. Anyone familiar with effectiveness of both?
