Shaking My Head … California Strikes Again

I'm open to hearing about a communist government that didn't disarm the population.

Don't say American Indians because we were not communists.
And besides, look how well That turned out for them. I defy anyone to name ONE dictatorship where disarming the populace wasn’t a top priority. The whole purpose of 2A was to protect the people from the government. If the second ever goes away (or is simply ignored by the gov) dictatorship will follow as night follows day.

First, on topic. I don’t know if Sheriffs in CA are elected or appointed, but if they’re elected, seems this town got exactly what they asked for. My concern is that should Newsom somehow succeed in his 2028 Presidential bid, this is where the US will be headed, sooner than later, and that will easily be in OUR lifetime.

I would almost concur 100% with your assessments. I just don’t think it will be a “Utopia”. I put the definition of Utopia, via Wikipedia, at the end of this post. Most will learn, too late, that Socialism and Communism is EXACTLY how it’s portrayed in the history books that apparently schools don’t use anymore:

“Historical and modern examples of perceived failed socialist states:

The Soviet Union (USSR): Established after the 1917 Russian Revolution, the USSR collapsed in 1991 following severe economic stagnation, widespread shortages of goods, and a failed coup attempt. Critics often point to its use of a totalitarian regime, suppression of dissent, and economic failures as a primary example of socialism's failings.

Venezuela: Beginning in the 2010s, Venezuela's economy has been in a state of severe crisis under its socialist government, experiencing hyperinflation, extreme poverty, and food and medicine shortages. Critics suggest that government mismanagement, over-reliance on oil exports, and populist policies contributed to its collapse.

Cuba: Since its revolution in 1959, Cuba has operated as a one-party communist state. It has struggled with severe economic crises and widespread poverty, often made worse by a U.S. economic embargo.

North Korea: An isolated, totalitarian state, North Korea's command economy has left a large majority of its population in poverty. It is often cited as an example of a failed socialist system, with economic stagnation and widespread suffering.

East Germany: From its founding in 1949 until reunification in 1990, East Germany suffered from economic crises, stagnant growth, and shortages of goods. These issues, alongside political repression, contributed to popular support for reunification.

Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge: This extreme communist regime in the 1970s led to the Cambodian genocide, in which an estimated 1.5 to 2 million people died from execution, starvation, and overwork. This is considered one of the most brutal failures of a state claiming to be socialist.”

“A utopia (/juːˈtoʊpiə/ ⓘ yoo-TOH-pee-ə) typically describes an imagined community or society that possesses highly desirable or near-perfect qualities for its members.”

I very respectfully disagree with "seems this town got exactly what they asked for.". I've lived in CA, OR, AZ, NV, TX and WA. With the exception of President Trump, I NEVER got what I voted for nor did everyone I know and associate with. Valid ID needs to be required at the polls and if the tax rolls don't show that you've been paying taxes as a citizen, your vote shouldn't count.

Individuals and overall citizens are two different animals. I’ve voted in every Presidential election since I was legally able. Sometimes my candidate was selected, other times they weren’t. I also vote in “off year”, non-Presedential elections. This is where a lot of the left gains ground, because folks don’t think those type elections are important enough to participate.

My stating “town got what they asked for” was simply referring to the majority must have wanted him and his views as Sheriff. And if the majority didn’t want him, I’d like to see how many who didn’t want him then didn’t bother to vote. I am thinking the Sheriff there was elected as they are here in Texas, but if appointed, that would make for a different discussion. There are always going to be areas where voters lean one way or the other. That’s what redistricting is all about. Things could also change if people would actually vote. I haven’t researched numbers, but I doubt we’re even to 50% voter participation. Maybe things will change with all the registrations Turning Point America are getting completed - though registering and participating are two very different things.

By the way, I am 100% for photo ID to vote. It baffles me how the left says it’s impossible yet they find it possible to hand non-citizens photo drivers licenses at will.

Maybe in this case, but that's not universally true. Racked Choice Voting. I.E. Me. passed RCV ( the question was written so convoluted that years later no one can agree if a no vote was for it) the first time it was used the "winner" didn't win by enough and after the reassignments of votes was done Jared Golden the 1st loser became the "winner". IF YOU DON'T HAVE RCV FIGHT IT TOOTH AND NAIL. One person one vote!
Voter ID "is racist" but ID to open a bank account, enter most federal buildings, buy booze or cigarettes,.....isn't  go figure.

It's not THAT easy. They have to have a literate interpreter with them at DMV to read their native language instructions for them.

That's just for help at DMV. Once they get their licenses, they're on their own for reading roadside signs. But it's safer now when they drive now that they can google the instructions on their car phones.
