All Shifty would have had to do would have been to pull the trigger group from his old rifle, insert it into the new M1 and he would have been back in business.

yea if the barrel was good ,the M1 Garand was a truly amazing rifle and would have been a little better if they would have went with the .276 ,7mm ,holding another 2 rounds in the enbloc mag. But they already had all those millions of 06 rounds in storage from ww1 .
