Should Your CCW Be Big, Small, or Neither?

Ohhh, Ohhh , l have an answer ! (At least if l don't make it personal to me .)

I'm frequently volunteering at the booth for my 2A Org . In addition to the legal & political outreach , our Charter includes Education , and we enjoy occasionally fielding pure gun related stuff .

A common one is " I'm / we're think about getting a Handgun , what should we look for ? " . A couple of follow up questions for them , but usually :

First , and potentially only handgun . Home defense, range , maybe CCW . Further follow up , they're usually having semiauto in mind , even with my obligatory " don't rule out Revolvers " .

Default answer :

9mm , with polymer or aluminum frame .

Grip just long enough for all your fingers , but little more .

Bbl length of about 4 inch , or a bit less .

Operating system that you can handle reasonably well.

" What fits Me isn't what fits You and vice versa , you need to try in Your hands ."⁸

Then pull out the solid plastic blue training guns , of the most Popular gun , of the two most common size categories , for them to get a general feel .

For EDC 4" minimum barrel length on 9mm with full size frames, 45acp 1911's Commander length and 4.4" Sig P220 45acp. Usually carry j-frame in an ankle holster or occasionally in a pocket holster. Always wear a tee shirt covered with un-buttoned outer shirt to conceal EDC in a 3 o'clock OWB holster. Don't doubt the pistols print sometimes really don't care, live in The Great State of Texas.
