SIG M18 mishaps investigated in death of Airman 7/20/25

A lot of the issues with LEO have been Safariland holsters that take a weapon light. It is possible for foreign objects to get into the holster while the gun is in it. Sig has recommended not using that particular holster.
Yeah specifically the 6000 and 7000 series. My point is the same Hoisters is being issued and used with Glocks and they are not having near the issues. Both my Sheriffs Office and the city run Safariland with lights but run Glock 17 MOS and 45 MOS

The problem is clearly with the P320. And let’s face it you need a hammer for the Glock trigger. 😎

It's an edge case, but apparently tolerances and tolerance stacking can play a part, along with abnormal wear patterns, especially with one of the springs being prone to working loose. It's not an "every gun" thing, it's a "well used, often jostled" gun thing.

“Of the 50 iterations conducted during the FBI evaluation, BRF found the M18 fired a primed case nine times. But this was a used handgun with over 1,000 rounds through it (the Modular Handgun System – of which the M18 is part – requires a service life of 25,000 rounds, but try not to think about that). So the Michigan State Police provided a brand-new, unfired M18 to BRF. In the new M18, the primed case fired on the second attempt.”

What I saw after the authorization in 1999 the majority of stateside bases (my home base and I did a TDY at Ellsworth) was JHP I also did a CATM stint at Malmstrom in 2010 and base side they ran JHP CATM we had a few mags with JHP for when we escorted weapons however we also used ball ammo if someone working the range had to make a trip base side they didn’t throw JHP mags in. You either carried all JHP or all Ball
Like I said…Commander discretion for JHP
If you are doing Law Enforcement duties.

Any air base defense or deployment required ball ammo due to Geneva Convention rules nobody pays attention to

Missile complex at Minot and FE Warren were ball ammo last I knew

Respectfully not sure why you seem to want to play gotcha I never mentioned anythjng about “deploying” with JHP but specifically stated stateside. That said I’ll just respectfully point out that the Geneva convention had nothing to do with legalities of using JHP in war. The expanding bullet restrictions were part of The Hague treaty that banned it during warfare however thwre are certain activities as in SEALs use Speer 147 G2 Gold Dot and they do what they do.
