SIG M18 mishaps investigated in death of Airman 7/20/25

Must be one of them new tactical looks, a wood screw stuck in the trigger. man i gotta have one. they will sell like hotcakes if sig decides to sell guns with screws. The other gun companies better get on this wagon quick. this is going to be huge.

Just my thoughts, this thread needs to stop, if you don’t like the 320 fine, if you do like the 320 fine, but to keep going back and forth on this subject is getting old, yes, there may or may not be an issue with the 320, yes it’s very sad situation that a person died possibly over an incident with it, but to keep going on about it will serve no purpose, there are several other threads on the 320, we get it

Well, that went over well.

Remember that the newest/latest/greatest thing is not always an improvement. Change should be made to give more positive results. Change just for the sake of change is never a good idea. I’ll say again, the 1911 served longer than any handgun in US history (or maybe even history in total-certainly among modern pistols). Has anyone ever heard of a cocked and locked .45 going off by itself? Yea, me neither.

I still have a Wilson Super Sentinel (.38 Super 3.6” 1911) that I occasionally carry cocked and locked. I think it’s my current “in possession” gun with most rounds downrange … 1394 (thirteen hundred and ninety four). I find it easy to carry and a joy to shoot!

The 1911 is a great gun. However here is some histoey I learned from Tom Givens at Rangemaster Advance Instructor class

The Military fought about getting out of handguns immediately before WW2 kicked off so the Army had had the 1911 for only 20 some years at that point and decided to keep them.

WW2 kicked off and the build up with millions more 1911’s built during the war. Between the late 1940’s and early 50’s the Military looked at a 9mm as well as the Commander and S&W developed the Model 39 for a new handgun to be submitted.

Between politicos (or taboo using a former enemy’s caliber so soon after a couoke World Wars and the Military actually looked at the millions of 1911’s in inventory many unissued and said we will make do.

So while the 1911 is a great design of it haven’t been the number we had from WW2 we would have probably not had it as long as we did.

Sig Sauer pistol still in wide use across military after airman’s death

While some units in the Air Force have pulled the M18 from duty after a discharge killed an airman last week, officials from the other services said they have no plans to modify or pause use of the pistol.

“We have not seen any evidence that indicates design or manufacturing issues are present,” Meghan Stoltzfus, a Marine Corps spokesperson, said in a statement to Task & Purpose. She added that the M18 was “rigorously tested” to Department of Defense standards and “subject to extensive lot acceptance testing” with oversight by the Defense Contract Management Agency, Army and Marine Corps.
