SIG SAUER Launches the SIG516 G3

I am a big fan of the SIG 556R in 7.62 X 39 that takes AK mags. The first ones had indigestion with steel case ammo, but they fixed that and made what I consider the thinking mans AK. It is accurate and reliable. I am mostly a handgun guy, but figured everyone needs a 7.62 x 39 rifle. Wish I had another for my wife.

I also have a Sig 556R and the last Gen before they dropped it. No issues with mine also.

Mine has the Samson Manufacturing cheese-grated forearm vs. yours.

I made some upgrades to mine.

Sigh, yet another “modern sporting rifle”, ‘cause forty or fifty existing models don’t exist…. I’m suspecting the market has gotten so flooded that the mfgr’s are pushing “new” and “improved” for those poor folks who are convinced they have to have the latest and greatest. Around here at least the LGS’s have a small fraction of the MSR’s that they had five or so years ago-per a friend who owns a shop “everybody that wants one has one, or two, or three…things just aren’t selling anymore.”

The handgun market has been flooded with same ol same ol for 40 years.
Do you feel the same way about pistols?

Pic or it didn't happen! :)
Mine's actually the Sig 556 Xi (r) which was the last version.

Thanks to @Winchester67 I dug the Sig556Xi(R) out of the safe on Wed & since I hadn't evaluated it for awhile I decided to make some changes to the optic/BUIS set-up.

I forgot I had an QD ADM Scout cantilever 30mm mount (apparently being discontinued by ADM) on it, then I remembered I had a 30mm LW Aero Precision in the parts box that I could never find a platform for.

Since I'm awaiting a foreseeable future platform for "26" which would be a better home for the ADM Scout mount I swapped out the ADM for the Aero Precision, then adjusted the BUIS so I can flip the rear up in case the "heavy" Primary Arms LVPO failed during a self-defense encounter.

The new set-up balances the Sig 556Xi(R) much better now. The Aero Precision mount is being used now, aand I don't have to buy another ($200-$250) ADM mount for the forthcoming project.

My .02

I love the 7.62 x 39 cartridge but generally unimpressed with the firearms that fired it, namely haphazardly assembled AK's. The SKS carbines were surprisingly accurate, and my father had one that rode with him in his Jeep CJ on the farm that accounted for a boxcar load of deer over the years. I fitted it with a Williams Peep Sight and it was good to go. When SIG brought out a precision made rifle that takes AK mags, I had to get one. It rings the steel from 200 yards from standing every time. I am mostly a handgun guy, am known as a Shotgun Man, but everyone needs at least a couple of rifles. I have an AR and this SIG and a Marlin lever action .357 which covers most of the bases. Oh, and a Ruger 10/22 of course, because everybody has one of those!
