Single Purposes Blades

USMC6094

Professional
Got the Gerber Mark II yesterday afternoon, packed like it was a vital organ for transplant......
I'm in the process of addressing a few issues with the scabbard, nothing major, but age related deterioration.
When the weather clears up a little, I'll post pictures of it, and my other "single" purpose blades.....

I’m thinking this one qualifies.

The proper atmosphere still eludes me for pictures........
The scabbards components condition have left me treating each part as a separate entity.
At the moment I'm treating the leather to a HEAVY regimen of Mink Oil.
The metal parts of the scabbard will be treated as I figure out the best way forward.
As much as I could do, I've done, less the leather treatment, which is a whole subject unto itself.

If you have metal thst needs a cleanup or light polish cap cod clothes are very good for metal and plastic. I use it all the time on the knives I make.

For protecting metal unfinished or blued and wood i use Birchwood Casey Gun stock wax.

Finally had time for pictures.....
First up is the Gerber Mk I, and Mk II

I'm still working on conditioning the scabbard for the MkII, it's coming along slowly, but it's coming along......

In 1990 my unit was scheduled to go to Saudi Arabia. I wanted to get a "Deployment Knife" to take with me before "Deployment Knives" were even a thing.

There was a mall in downtown Tacoma I don't remember the name of it but it's the same one that had a gorilla in it and Michael Jackson bought the gorilla and set it free in an animal Preserve Thus proving that he wasn't all bad.

Anyway the mall had a knife store in it. So I went in there looking for a knife.

I have a wonderful talent for putting my foot in my mouth. I couldn't decide between a Gerber Mark 2 and a K-Bar so I asked the guy working in the store if he ever had to go to combat with a knife which would he choose between those two.

He informed me that he had been in the Marines during Korea and his position had been overrun by Chinese soldiers. He said that he had in fact defended himself with a K-Bar.

He said that if he ever had to defend himself with a Gerber Mark II he would consider himself to be unarmed.

Like I said I'm dumb I bought the Gerber.

I also never went to Saudi Arabia.
