Smaller Guns for Defense?

Are the smallest guns the best choice?

Not for every situation, but there are places that the smaller gun is the only one that will do.

“Carry the most capable handgun for your perceived needs.” It takes judgement and knowing your situation.

Probably the smallest gun I tend to carry is my K6S with Hornady Critical Defense .38+P. It gets carried in warm weather in an IWB holster and in a coat pocket in the colder months. I sometimes carry an auto but I still like wheel guns. Those younger guys often think I'm just an old geezer (OK I am) but I expect that if I need it, it will be at what I call "Jack Ruby distance." So it's my "ear, nose and throat" gun.

My philosophy too....

I carry a Colt Agent 38Sp about 90% of the time.

The larger Airweight J frame or beloved yet discontinued Colt Agent/Cobra are easier to draw and shoot than a little .25 acp. Sometimes a "vest pocket" .25 is all you can carry, but the Ruger LCP and the Kel Tec have made the baby guns in .25 obsolete. Still, they are so cute and precisely made I have kept one.

As an aside, my Speedo gun was a S&W 29 with the 8 3/8 inch barrel. Thought that would impress the ladies. However, my small of the back holster kinda spoiled that plan....

Darryl Bolke is a national treasure and a wealth of knowledge. Glad I can call him a friend. Trained under him several times.

I have a Seecamp 32acp and a NAA Guardian 32acp that will fit in a Cigarette pack. Plus a couple NAA mini revolvers in 22short and others in 22LR and a 22mag. They certainly arent my primary caary guns but they do fill in when more is too much. The Seecamp is a great sporran gun when wearing a kilt.

I might have known some cops that kept a NAA mini revolver in a shirt pocket?

In general my smallest carry is a SIG P365. The others are certainly more concealable but the P365 is the most general use small carry gun

Because some days anything else is just too much, maybe it's where I'm going, how I'm dressed, or just to lazy to haul around anything more. Tiny autos are great, but I'm more comfortable with this single action. Whatever lifts each of our skirts. (y)
