So Here’s An Article That Claims FEAR Drives Gun Buying

Came across this article this morning and wasted 5 minutes of my life I’ll never get back (will explain with quote from article). The authors seem to stipulate that we US Citizens only buy guns out of fear and/or if we are in the “improper” social group. Not one bit of detail in the article about those requiring firearms for their profession, those that hunt, those that participate in firearms sports…nope, just the usual nonsense that Americans buy guns because they’re scared.

After I wasted my time actually reading the article (seemed interesting - I was wondering why the total guns to population was so low), I got to this:

“Disclaimer: This article is based on a theoretical mathematical model and does not constitute empirical proof of any specific cause of gun ownership behavior in the United States. The study has not been validated against individual behavioral data, and its findings should be understood as hypothesis-generating rather than definitive.”

Don’t know about you, but seems like journalistic malpractice to me! Remember kids, a mind is a terrible thing to waste - especially at the prices Dartmouth charges!

I suppose there is some truth to the basic premise. I buy some guns out of fear. For starters:
Fear of bad people.
Fear of the government.
Fear of going hungry.
Fear of missing out on a nice old gun.
Fear of not having something to leave my kids.
Most importantly, fear of being outshot by my buddy or not having the latest gun between the two of us.

FEAR is a motivator. Its as much (maybe more) of a motivator than pleasure. Pleasure is momentary but fear can last forever.

We dont buy home owners insurance because its good to give money to some guy; we buy it because something that we are afraid of "might" happen. Then theres the whole shooting insurance thing.....because OMG...fear

Fear freezes people then pushes them to make poor decisions.

"heoretical mathematical model "... WTH? another word salad from leftist leaning ai. no facts, no proof, just BS. it would make schumer proud.
If a certain religious faction in leftist leaning American schools are allowed to carry a kirpan to school, but everyone else is prohibited from carrying anything even resembling a weapon, how screwed up is the country? Students have every right to "fear" or their safety.
