Springfield Armory’s Best Brush Gun?

Not for me.

SOCOM w/o the scout rail.

The shortest I go is a Scout since the SOCOM/Tanker uses a different proprietary gas system than the Scout & full-sized M1As.

My .02

I like the idea of a bolt gun as a brush gun, more so than a semi-auto rifle. Either platform means magazines, though, and that can be a possible weak link.

Nothing is perfect or absolute, that's the reality.

Traditional bold guns with internal magazines are no problem, but slower than a lever-action when in close-quarters with large animals in my area.

My brush gun was a ,308 Norma Magnum pump action short barrel but it hurt to shoot and after 3 years I decided I needed something more comfortable and traded for a 264 which worked great for antelope

Intriguing possibility might be one of these with a 358 Win. chambering. Most manufacturers don't like multiple calibers in bolt guns much less a semi, but we should admit that the bigger bore version could be very nice in a pinch when something big and moderately dangerous (thinking bruin) invited itself into camp or better yet a moose itching to get invited to accompany me home for dinner. 7.62 is an excellent cartridge itself, but .358 Win deserves more attention than it has typically gotten.
