Springfield Prodigy 4.25 – 2,500 Round Update + EGW Slide Stop Impressions

The Springfield Prodigy is sitting at about 2,500 rounds now, so I figured I’d share an update along with some recent parts changes.

EGW Slide Stop Impressions

I recently installed the EGW slide stop and I’ve got to say, I’m really digging it.

It’s noticeably easier to get a hold of with my support-side thumb during reload drills. That alone is a nice upgrade, but what surprised me more is how it affected the safety feel.

It dramatically improved the feel of the safety when disengaged. Before, I had a bit of a spongy feel with the safety fully depressed on fire. That’s now almost completely gone.

My theory is the EGW slide stop is just slightly longer than the OEM, which may be putting a bit more consistent pressure on the safety plunger. Whatever the reason, it tightened up the safety perfectly.

I ride the safety with my dominant hand, so this is a noticeable improvement in how the gun feels during live fire and manipulation.

Dawson Base Plate (installed on OEM 17rd Duramag)

Pictured is a Dawson base plate I installed on one of my OEM 17-round Duramags.

The factory baseplate finally gave up after being dropped on concrete countless times during reload drills. The Dawson plate brought the mag back to life.

Initial impressions:
- Looks great
- Feels more durable than OEM
- Locks up solid against bottom of frame when inserted

I haven’t live-fired this mag yet since installing it, but it hand cycles smoothly with no issues.

Atlas 17rd 126mm Magazine Fitment

Also shown is one of my recently acquired 17-round 126mm Atlas mags.

Worth noting:
- It is slightly longer than the 17rd Duramag
- The baseplate does not act as an over-insertion stop like the OEM mags

Something to be aware of depending on how aggressively you seat mags during reloads.

I’ll be picking up more 124gr HST soon to properly reliability test these.

Ammo & Reliability (2,500 Rounds)

Round count is sitting around ~2,500 total.

Breakdown is roughly:
- Majority: Winchester 124gr NATO
- Winchester White Box 115gr
- Some Federal Premium 115gr
- ~100 rounds of 124gr HST

So far, I’ve only experienced two stoppages total.

EGW FLGR System

This gun is also running the EGW full-length guide rod recoil system, which has been completely reliable so far.

I’ve got their ignition kit on the way and I’m looking forward to seeing how that changes the trigger and overall feel.

Current Thoughts

At this point, the gun has been very solid for me with minimal issues. The EGW slide stop was a bigger upgrade than I expected—especially in terms of how it improved the safety feel.

I’ll update again once I get more rounds on the Atlas mags and get the ignition kit installed.
