Stockpiling for when the SHTF

Is the area forested or open mountainous country?

M855 didn't perform well in Afghanistan, then there was a switch to Mk. 262.

M193 is OK at short-range but in mountainous country it's ballistics is a short-coming.

The .308/7.62x61 will be more effective at longer ranges, as well buck the swirling condition in mountainous country.

My .02

It's a mix of both. Our home sits on 7 acres of cleared land with a few trees but nothing dense, that piece is flat (as flat as WV really gets) and ends at our woods. Those woods make up the rest of our land parcel and it's trees and dense foliage in places. Thank you for the knowledge.

My perspective is for open western conditions. Having grown up in PA, but living in the interior west I know that western & eastern conditions differ.

That being said, the shorter cleared and forested distances may allow for the 5.56/.223 in both weights, to still be effective.
