Taurus Tracker 357 Mag, My Thoughts

Oaktree45

Custom
I took my brand new Taurus Tracker 627 in 357 magnum to the range yesterday. I was very impressed with it. I had to wonder if the Colt Python that my dealer had in his case could be so much better that it would justify a price that was three times the cost of the Taurus. The Colt was definitely prettier though.

For the way I shoot, the sights on the Tracker were just a hair to the right and low. Once I adjusted the sights for windage and elevation the Tracker was dead on. I was surprised when I switched over to 38 Special ammo (lighter bullet weight) that it continued to punch holes in the same spot as the 357.

Felt recoil was so much better than what I was used to when I would shoot my Ruger Blackhawk in 357. The rubber grips and ported barrel really made a difference. I was glad that my revolver came with the better grips than what is pictured on their website.

BTW, the Tracker holds seven rounds of 357 and is a DA/SA revolver. When I shot double action, I was surprised how smooth the trigger was and the trigger pull wasn’t as heavy as I was expecting. When I shot single action, I felt the trigger pull was just a tad heavier than I like but I adjusted to it quickly.

The only hiccup I had was a 38 special round failed to fire, it did fire on a second go round. All of my shooting was at 7 and 10 yards. Today I plan to take one of my bear image targets and shoot at 25 yards.

The tracker fits the same holster I use for my 44 magnum but I think I’m going to buy a Barsony cross-draw holster for this gun. So far I really like this revolver.

I had a similar revelation 30 years ago when I bought my Taurus model 44. It has an 8.38" barrel and is compensated ( as is your Tracker). I can shoot that gun one handed all day long. My Super Blackhawk (44 Mag with 10" barrel) was a lot more violent on the recoil.
