TAX STAMPS - Will Next Democrat Admin Try to Recoup

I don’t mean this to be political, but it’s a serious question. I had never bought an NFA item before as I thought a $200 permission slip was ridiculous. Since it’s been marked down to a $0 tax stamp, I have now purchased and have in my possession two suppressors, one I use with long guns/static barrels and one I use with pistols...makes things much easier on my old ears at my indoor range.

As easy as the process was on those, I am considering an SBR (or, if they actually do away with engraving, turning my Kuna into one), or, whom I kidding, both. My concern is whether or not the next Administration, if a (D) clean sweep, might try to recoup $200 for each $0 tax stamp issued during the current Administration. I’d like to think not, and I know the DOJ just released a decent list of pro 2A policy changes, but I’d really like to see them put it all into legislation so it can’t be changed back on a whim.

At this point a $400 recoup wouldn’t kill me, but over the next three years, I can see a few more $0 stamps added, so it would likely be a bit bigger hit than $400.

I know no one can actually be definitive on an answer, just curious what others think. I think it’s absurd to even have to consider it, but history has shown that one party’s policies have always directly attacked lawful gun owners, whether through absurd gun regulations, excessive fees on whatever 2A items they can manage (guns, ammo, availability of ranges, etc.), or flip flopping on basic items like braces so as to put law abiding gun owners in peril of unintentionally and unknowingly becoming felons.

The ATF cannot retroact a tax on goods that were not taxed to begin with. A new admin could reinstate a tax though for nfa items.
Its like IRS tax code. If they raise the tax rate, they cant go back and collect tax on the difference in rate for the last years under the old tax rate.

I do think it is wise to go ahead while its cheap ...... has anyone noticed the price on suppressors come down yet?

I guess I look at it both ways: This puts me, yet again, in a database I don't believe I should be in and violates my rights,
and if there is a way to monetize <cough, cough> something like this tax, the Government never gets it right. So, in other words, expect that *when* it comes back (because it is a regulation, after all), it will cost more.

I don t think retroactive, but I’d bet they’ll bring back the tax, and at a MUCH higher rate than $200. I’m guessing $2500 or more ($200 dollars in the 1930’s equals about that today. And give the love the D’s have for the 2nd don’t be surprised if it’s &5k per device. I wouldn’t be shocked if the put it on ALL firearms

All of them are $200 cheaper.
