THE 3 DS OF LATERAL MOVEMENT

Lateral movement is moving off line from the line of attack to the threat or the target we’re using to simulate the threat. The reason we do lateral movement is to get used to moving while we’re doing our gun handling.

WHY USE LATERAL MOVEMENT?

The 3 Ds are:

Distance: You should move laterally at least one body width. Any lesser distance and the attacker will not be invested in your movement.

Direction: perpendicular to the line of attack.

Duration: How long should you move?

I really wish I had access to a larger range that would allow for this type of practice. I also need ammo to do these drills.

You can practice these drills even a 50' bay, and with a 22lr, or even a paintball or C02 bb gun.
