Around the Industry: Heroics, Handguns, and Hard Feelings

The 5.7×28mm cartridge—and firearms chambered for it—is having a moment, thanks to the courage of a full-time caregiver.

“When gunshots rang out at a Twin Falls In-N-Out, this Idaho man shot back” read the headline in the Idaho Statesman. And thanks to social media, most are at least partly familiar with the story.

On Saturday, August 1, a mass shooting event at the In-N-Out Burger in Twin Falls ended shortly after it began when a good guy with a gun stepped up to engage a bad guy with a gun.

Upon hearing shots fired and seeing customers flee the In-N-Out, Jordan Salinas, 35, fell back on his training. He drew his suppressed FN Five-seveN from his shoulder holster and went through his four-step process: Observe, Orient, Decide, Act (In fighter pilot training it’s called the “OODA Loop”).

When he identified the active shooter and determined it was time to act, using a two-hand grip Salinas leveled his gun at the shooter and fired back.

When confronted by Salinas, and an off-duty state trooper, returning fire, the gunman retreated and tapped out, shooting himself before Salinas and the trooper did it for him.

As far as 5.7…..yawn. Same thing could have been done with a 22 but doesn’t mean it’s mainstream choice. (And again this is no criticism to Mr Salinas he was a hero and proved the mindset is the weapon)

As far as Stacatto they probably should.

Here’s what I saw working in the industry. And I am not sure if Staccatos buisness model falls into it but in general almost ak the companies the firearms companies reps were not gun people, they were college degree marketing degrees that didn’t know anythjng until they started working for said firearms company. They can’t talk guns they talk numbers, and A LOT of them are worthless at following up

HK Beretta and FN are horrible Sig and S&W are hit and miss Springfield in my area wasn't bad and Glock was probably the best as almost all their Reps if they didn’t come from a LE/Mil teainjng background they were sure squared away above and beyond other companies.

I know of a couple LE reps that had zero clue about standard LE Homsters from Safariland or what did it didn’t fit theor guns bur here they are cosplaying subject matter experts

So with Staccato reducing authorized dealers don’t surprise me. It’s sort of how it use to be.
I am old enough to remember when of aomeknw was a S&W distributor or dealer they wouldn’t or couldn't carry Ruger or Colt or make your picks so to me it’s not quite like that bad!

I always liked the Glock reps, they always showed up with toys and ammo to play with.

Hi,

I don't get it. Why is Staccato shooting itself on the foot?

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

I would go into add Staccato (some will disagree) but it’s a niche market. I mean they are not usually a first or second gun for people and more people are buying an 1,500 Prodigy and 2k11’s than 3,000 Stacatto

And those that like and know where to get them won’t have an issue. And the smaller number of authorized dealers just means the reps can concentrate on them and give better service and they not become what I mentions in my earlier post.

There is not a lot of sticking authorized dealers on many brands but if you are into then, you probably know where to get them
