The Byrna "Banana"

Byrna is a pos. I carry everyday, however I’ve a granddaughter (and a Great granddaughter😊) in New York and we go there when we can-since carry there is Verboten, wife had seen one of these and thought it might be an option. We were heading out in the camper so she ordered this well before my birthday. We got home 4 weeks later, right before my BD. On the morning of my BD my bride gave me my present. I’d never even heard of one, so I began to check it out. Quickly determined it has a whopping EIGHR ft. Lbs of energy (think 1/10 the energy of a .22 short). Heck I’ve got a .177 RWS air rifle that has 50% more energy. I determined immediately to send this toy back and get her $$ refunded. Called the wonderful folks at Byrna “Sorry it’s been more than 30 days”. I explained that wife had ordered it early and that I’d just got it the day before. I also told them it had not ever been out of the box AT ALL. “I’m sorry but it’s been over 30 days since it was delivered”. No recourse, no option, nothing. Stuck with it. I was PO’d but finally thought well, since I’m stuck I may as well see how it works. Loaded up the “kinetic energy” rounds fired 5 into a hanging 8” steel plate-nothing. The plate didn’t even wiggle, the little plastic balls bounced back about 6’ and that’s it😳.ok, well may the pepper balls with the “cloud” of pepper dust. Again, loaded 5 rounds, shot the same plate. Three did not even burst, the remaining 2 did resulting in a small “puff” of dust maybe the size of a softball.🙄.. Ok, so these things do not work, even worse, mine is black and at first blush actually Looks like a pistol. For those cases where merely presenting a firearm scares the thug away I guess it’d work, however it the thug is armed it’d quickly get you shot. And it you actually USE it, you just might hit the thug. And if you manage to hit him, he just might notice. And if he notices, he just might get mad and hurt you. I would most definitely NOT recommend these toys to anyone. (And if anyone actually want one of these I’ll make you one hell of a deal on one that’s been fired only 10 times-as new in box)

Yeah, Byrna is a “gun” for people who are terrified of guns and just want to scare away evil. Nice idea there but a million miles from reality. Fact is evil is out there, and it poses a risk to the innocent. Wishing it will go away doesn’t solve the problem.

My son's a cop in a s-hole at night. He responded to a call for a car burglary. The burglar was shot with a Byrna and held by the owner until cops showed up. They were impressed by by the injury. He couldn't get up until after they showed up. The owner wasn't charged. In California, you're almost always going to jail for even the most-justifiable shooting until it's investigated, but there was no issue for the shooter

My wife chooses to go to work at 2am. She doesn't work in the s-hole our son does, but it's the same county (my son was a deputy in the county when he started), but it has its bad spots. He's tried to get her to take a pistol with her because she walks through the parking lot alone.

I have bought her a .22 micro-revolver, a .38 palm-sized revolver, a .22 semi-auto. We have a 9mm Hellcat and a G-word, and a .44 revolver in the safe. She can shoot. We even have a truck with a combination-safe in the console that she could keep it in. But she won't do it. And if I tried to demand that she do something, the last thing I would ever do was hand her a gun. I mean, literally, it could be the last thing....

Since she won"t take any of those, my son bought her a Byrna as a Christmas present from her grandkids. The kids talked her into taking it with her going to work with her now. She's grand-sucker for a grandma

So I probably get more comfort from a Byrna than anybody else here.

And I know it's a pop-gun, but it's got some serious pop. I was kinda surprised. Seriously, WAY more than a paintball.

If so yours certainly hits harder than mine. I’m 75 and let me cover my face and throat, put on a sweatshirt and a Carhartt coat and you can shoot all day at $10 a pop😏. $200 plus shipping and you can be the proud owner🙄

$200 ? Nah. Thanks. She has a free one.

If it's good for nothing why would I pay $200 ? Come down a couple hundred bucks and i might pay for shipping ;)
